Bonnie Brae has great opportunities for Summer Recreation Youth Counselors. These positions are an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience in the field of mental health, working with at-risk youth alongside expert staff. Treatment complemented by a nationally recognized therapeutic program. The Summer Recreation Youth Counselors provide supervision, recreation counseling, behavior management and monitoring of the basic needs of the boys who live in cottages on campus. The Summer Recreation Youth Counselors participate in therapeutic recreation based program components and work with the interdisciplinary treatment team members providing programming/recreation for the boys. The daily cottage program is conducted by the counselors to address group behavior and needs, with additional responsibility for coordinating recreation activities and participating in other group functions.
These opportunities are 40 hours/week: 8 hour shifts ranging between 7 AM - 11 PM, including weekends, beginning the first week in June and running through the mid to end of August. The potential exists to accompany Bonnie Brae direct care and program staff with residents to week long summer camp in Upstate New York (which Bonnie Brae sponsors) during third week in August.
Education/Experience:
Majors including but not limited to Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Criminal Justice, etc. with an avid interest in teaming. Recreation experiences a plus.
We are also looking for candidates with Life Guard experience: Card/Certification for Lifeguard, CPR for the professional rescuer & first aid required.
Rate of Pay:
$17.00/hour for Summer Recreation Youth Counselors, with a potential to stay on after the summer as a part time associate.
$19.00/hour for Certified Lifeguards.
