Job Summary

The Pittsburgh Pirates are in search of a talented software engineer and valued member of the Baseball Operations’ Research & Development team. This position will primarily focus on front-end development for our new single platform designed to centralize information for players, coaches, and front-office personnel and drive data-driven decision-making throughout Baseball Operations. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who is motivated to build a product that transforms how the Pirates organization consumes and collaborates around data as it strives to make better in-game decisions, acquire and develop the best talent, and win championships. Responsibilities:

  1. Build easy-to-use frontend applications specifically designed for baseball operations. Create reusable parts and code that can grow and stay easy to manage over time.
  2. Work closely with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and implement solutions aligned with operational needs.
  3. Drive improvements to the user interface and user experience, incorporating feedback to optimize usability.
  4. Conduct thorough testing and debugging of applications to ensure high performance and reliability.
  5. Review code thoroughly to ensure quality and scalability.
  6. Create and maintain technical documentation to facilitate knowledge transfer and future development.
  7. Stay updated on industry trends, propose innovative ideas, and integrate new technologies to elevate existing systems.
 
Position Requirements

Required:

  1. Authorized to work lawfully in the United States.
  2. Proficiency in front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks like React or Angular.
  3. Demonstrated experience in front-end development, preferably within a collaborative team environment.
  4. Expertise in developing responsive and mobile-friendly user interfaces.
  5. Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with diverse team members.
  6. This position may require occasional work outside of regular office hours. The nature of projects within the Baseball Operations’ Research and Development team might necessitate flexibility to accommodate urgent tasks, particularly during critical phases of development or when addressing time-sensitive issues.

Desired:

  1. Successful track record in utilizing React Native for building high-quality, performant mobile applications.
  2. Proficiency in creating compelling and insightful data visualizations.
  3. Experience and/or interest in UI/UX design is appreciated.
  4. Familiarity with back-end languages, such as SQL, is a preferred skill.
