Special Collections Archival Manuscript Intern, Summer 2024 (Gold Rising)

Description

Job Summary:

The Margaret Herrick Library is seeking an intern to assist and support the Special Collections department in the processing of collections to make them accessible for research use. The Special Collections Archival Manuscript Intern will assist in projects that will involve physically organizing, refoldering and cataloging film-related paper materials. The goal is to gear the project to the intern's film interest.

The intern will work under the supervising archivist of collections and collaboratively with library collection managers and archivists. They will gain experience in all aspects of collections encountered in a library setting, including activities related to processing, inventories, location management, data entry, and research access. The intern also will take part in activities across the Academy Foundation’s collecting organizations (Margaret Herrick Library, Academy Film Archive, Academy Museum). This will allow the intern to develop a deeper understanding of the workflow of a library archive that closely collaborates with a film archive and a museum. The intern will work at the Academy's Pickford Center in Hollywood and at the Margaret Herrick Library in Beverly Hills.

Special interests or specific goals of the interns will be encouraged and addressed as part of the internship. Community college and undergraduate film students with a strong interest in moving image archival studies or library science are encouraged to apply.

This is a limited term internship position beginning in June 2024 through August 2024. The hourly wage for this role is $17.28.

  • Assess a collection to gauge its unique needs, including organizing collections, analyzing documents researching historical context of collections
