Assistant Superintendent, Public Works/Streets

Description

Organizes and supervises the day-to-day operations of the construction, repair and maintenance of city streets. Essential duties include:

  • Coordinates, supervises and organizes the day-to-day operations of the division.
  • Hires, trains, assigns, directs, supervises, evaluates and disciplines personnel.
  • Generates tasks for crews to completed, including sidewalk repair, street maintenance, tree trimming and removal, and right-of-way maintenance.
  • Reviews and prioritizes work orders from other departments.
  • Responds to public questions and concerns.
  • Prepares check requests.
  • Directs the purchase of tools, equipment and supplies.
  • Reviews maintenance and fuel usage for all division vehicles and equipment.
  • Assists Superintendent with required reports and supervises department in his/her absence.
 
Position Requirements
  • Knowledge of street construction, maintenance, and repair procedures and methods.
  • Knowledge of city and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of a variety of equipment.
  • Skill in prioritizing and organizing work.
  • Skill in the use of street maintenance equipment.
  • Skill in the use of hand and power tools.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in the supervision of personnel.
  • High School diploma or GED. Some college preferred.
  • Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions of the subunits in the division/department in order to direct and coordinate work within the division/department, usually interpreted to require two to four years of related experience.
  • Minimum of three years of supervisory experience.
  • Posession of a Class C license and acceptable driving record.
  • Possession of a Class A CDL or obtainment of within a year.

Hourly Rate of Pay $24.24 per hour with competitive benefits package and generous Pension Plan.
