Job Purpose

Under the guidance of the AVP of Human Resources, provide support for East Coast Region to managers and employees regarding benefits, leaves of absence, union issues, payroll issues, and interpreting company policies, and other human resources issues.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Understand and stay up-to-date on local, state and federal labor and employment regulations for the East Coast Region.
  • Assist Managers and Supervisors with employee disciplinary actions.
  • Assist managers and supervisors with internal job postings and new hire requisitions.
  • Responsible for coordinating all hiring needs in the East Coast locations and working closely with Corporate Recruiter.
  • Facilitate, organize, and manage new employee orientation and onboarding.
  • Coordinate with Corp. HR in the maintenance of employee files and update information in the HRIS system.
  • Reconcile monthly union benefit statements and union dues.
  • Work with payroll to ensure all employee deductions are processed in a timely manner and accurately.
  • Provide guidance to managers and supervisors when it comes to employee issues. Assist with employee investigations.
  • Acting as the point of contact in the office for questions regarding vacation and sick accruals.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with managers and employees.
  • Administration of all leaves of absence and other leaves for the East Coast Region.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality is critical to be successful in this role.
  • Assist the Safety Department with employee information when completing W/C paperwork.
  • Assist HR and Payroll departments with various research projects and/or special projects as needed.
  • With the assistance of the AVP of Human Resources and Corporate Legal Department, interpret union contract language with union questions as needed.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and affirmative action guidelines and laws, such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Various other general human resources tasks and projects as assigned by the Assistant VP of Human Resources and the East Coast Manager.
  • Interact with others in a professional and ethical manner
  • Follow department and company procedures
  • Keep up regular attendance and punctuality; regular attendance and punctuality are essential for the smooth operation of this company

Position Requirements

Qualifications (KSA, professional certifications, education, experience, travel requirements)

  • Bachelor's degree in human resource management or a related field, and at least four years of related human resources, benefits and/or employee benefits administration experience.
  • Must have at least 7 years of experience working in a human resources department.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.)
  • Experience with HRIS, payroll and benefits databases.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Effective planning and priority setting. Ability to manage several complex projects simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to understand and communicate benefits contract language.
  • Knowledge of or familiarity with pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements, both adopted and pending, affecting employee benefits programs, including the ACA, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, Section 125, and workers' compensation.
  • Experience working in a union environment is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills.
  • Less than 25% travel requirement

Physical Demands/Requirements:

Constantly (over 2/3):

  • Operates computer and other office productivity machinery such as calculator, copy machine and printer.
  • Remain in a stationary position for 50% or more of the time
  • Review documents, organizes data and detects accuracy of information
  • Communicates with customers and co-workers and exchanges accurate information in-person,

Frequently (1/3-2/3):

  • Moves throughout office accessing files, office machinery, etc.
  • telephonically and via electronic devices/e-mail

Occasionally (under 1/3):

  • Moves materials or documents up to 25 lbs
  • Moves across wet/slippery and uneven surfaces
  • Must be able to position self to perform duties around industrial equipment and materials that are hot or hazardous chemical materials
