JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Athletic Manager, assist in day-to-day activities of the climbing wall. Climbing wall is open 7 days a week and requires a flexible schedule.

Position Requirements

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must be safety conscious and customer service oriented.
  • Lift and move 45 lbs of weight for 15 feet.
  • CPR/First Aid certified, or the willingness to become certified within the first 6 months of employment.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Experience in indoor climbing or the ability to learn.
  • Ability to belay patrons of all sizes.
  • Group leadership experience preferred.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct climbing wall classes and programs.
  • Oversee climbing wall rentals, open climbs and events.
  • Ability to demonstrate wall climbing and belaying skills.
  • Review safety of equipment and report defects and/or malfunctions to supervisor.
  • Replace ropes as instructed by the supervisor.
  • Keep accurate records of participation and attendance.
  • Know and practice emergency procedures.
  • Follow and enforce all climbing wall protocol.
  • Maintain climbing wall skill level through trainings and/or climbing.
  • Attend staff meetings and training.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Wear the required uniform in order to be clearly identified as a park district employee.
  • Abide by the Bolingbrook Park District dress code for your area
  • Perform all job tasks within the rules and guidelines of the Park District’s safety program.
  • Work as a team player with co-workers and in conjunction with other departments

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Talking/hearing: to effectively communicate with patrons and co-workers

Standing: to instruct participants, hold ropes and belaying

Seeing: to observe and assist participants, review equipment and complete patron logs.

Climbing: to demonstrate and teach participants and replace ropes

Pushing/pulling: to belay participants- make corrections while belaying weight

Crouching: to prepare equipment and instruct participants

Kneeling: to help participants with equipment

 

COGNITIVE CONSIDERATIONS

Must have ability to read, write and organize materials. Must be able to relate to other people in a professional manner

This is a part time hourly, non-exempt position

HOURS

Facility is open 7 days a week for open climb or events. Hours will be set by the Athletic Manager, but not to exceed 28 hours per week.
