Your role in helping us shape the future:

U.S. News & World Report is seeking multiple talented summer Interns to work remotely or hybrid with the DC-based Health Analysis team to support the expansion of the high-profile “Best Hospitals for Maternity Care” program. Each intern will work closely with a Health Data Scientist, Hospital Relations Manager, and other members of the team. The successful candidate will join the team at a pivotal time to support Best Hospitals for Maternity Care, which relies on online survey submissions from hospital representatives and provides consumers with highly sought-after information to make informed decisions about where to safely and confidently deliver a baby. Each intern will gain experience in initiating communications and fostering relationships with hospital administrators and expanding hospital participation in an evaluation that will be published for the benefit of healthcare consumers.

Are you up to the challenge?

1. The primary responsibilities of the Intern will be to support hospital participation in the Best Hospitals for Maternity Care survey. Interns will conduct direct outreach to hospital representatives and follow-up to a substantial number of hospitals - ideally 100 or more a week - (primarily over phone and through email). The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining hospital contacts, providing outreach to hospitals that provide maternity services, and expanding participation in the survey.

2. They will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of project managers, product managers, and data analysts. They will also have opportunities to interface with U.S. News web developers and journalists, and external stakeholders such as administrators and media relations professionals at hospitals across the country.

3. They will have opportunities to hone their communications skills and develop knowledge of how a journalistic organization collects and uses healthcare data.

4. They may participate in other projects for the health team as requested, including supporting the preparation of our annual Best Hospitals Guidebook.
