Getty Marrow, Curatorial Intern, Summer 2024 (Gold Rising)

Description

Job Summary:

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is seeking an organized, enthusiastic intern to assist the Curatorial team. The intern will make a critical contribution in research and organization in support of the museum’s upcoming temporary exhibition Director’s Inspiration: Bong Joon Ho. Scheduled to open in Spring 2025, the gallery exhibition will focus on the filmography and cinematic influences of the director—shared through historical posters, personal artifacts, and materials from the director’s personal collection.

Under the guidance of an experienced curatorial staff, the intern will gain in-depth experience in preparation and planning for an exhibition that explores a lesser-known, international film history for a wide audience. The ideal candidate will be a rigorous researcher and strong writer, able to create bibliographies and filmographies, organize image files, and draft and edit research summaries. Previous museum experience is not necessary for this internship.

This is a limited term internship position beginning in June 2024 through August 2024. The hourly wage for this role is $16.78.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with exhibition checklists.
  • Conduct original research on Korean films and 20th century Korean socio-political history.
  • Organize archival materials.
  • Draft literature reviews.

Position Requirements

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Undergraduate students studying film studies, East/South/Southeast Asian studies, ethnic studies, history, museum studies, curatorial studies, or related fields are welcome to apply.
  • Community college students and undergrads interested in gaining museum-related experience are encouraged to apply.
  • A minimum of 2.8 GPA.
  • Possess a keen interest in curating, film, writing, and research, as well as a curiosity for under-represented voices and themes in cinema history.
  • Attention to detail, critical thinking, and a love of film.
  • Ability to read and write in Korean is a plus.
  • If in-person work is possible during the internship, must remain in a stationary position for periods of more than 2 hours.
  • Move up to 25 lbs.

If hired, we require all employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19, unless a medical or religious accommodation is needed as determined on a case-by-case basis.
