Job Summary:

The Science and Technology Council is one of the departments of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences which serves the various needs of the industry’s science and technology community. It promotes cooperation among divergent technological interests, provides a forum for the exchange of information, fosters educational activities, and works to preserve the history of the science and technology of motion pictures. One of the Council’s projects is maintaining a comprehensive list of Scientific and Technical Award recipients and nominees who have made significant contributions to the field of science and technology within the motion picture industry.

  • The intern will have the opportunity to work with an information management system (InMagic).
  • The intern will gain experience by working with primary research material.
  • The intern will contribute data to the input guidelines.

This is a limited term internship position beginning in June 2024 through August 2024. The hourly wage for this role is $16.78.

 

 
Position Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Edit and/or modify existing database records, conforming to Margaret Herrick Library standards and procedures.
  • Assist the archivist in the collection development and maintenance of the Council’s information resource/reference library (does not include book cataloging).
  • Assist in the creation of subject/reference files.
  • Assist with research of filmmaking technology.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Enrolled in a an accredited Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) university degree program.
  • A minimum of 2.8 GPA.
  • Meets internship program requirements of MLIS Program.
  • Knowledge of motion picture technology and history helpful.
  • Proficiency wit PC-based productivity software including database managers.
  • Ability to work well independently as well as with other and perform as part of a team.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Work may involve lifting boxes weighing up to 50 lbs. and accessing boxes from tall shelving.

This internship is part of the Academy’s Gold Rising program, an 8-week internship enhancement program that incorporates learning opportunities including an intensive two-day orientation, weekly panels, exclusive networking events, workshops, screenings, and mentorship opportunities with Academy members.
