Description

The Soundperson of City Center is a full-time seasonal, non-exempt position defined under the New York City Center I.A.T.S.E Local One collective bargaining agreement. The Soundperson reports to the Head Electrician and the Director of Production while supporting City Center’s mission and commitment to being an anti-racist organization.

 
Position Requirements
  • Interface with City Center sound design teams, and touring Sound technicians and designers to oversee and coordinate work on internal, rental and touring productions that play on our mainstage.
  • Run house soundboard for all mainstage productions.
  • For productions with a mixer, oversee mixer position.
  • Plan and implement required Electrics construction and maintenance projects determined by City Center Management.
  • Conduct inventory and maintenance of all stage electrics department equipment.
  • Work with Production Department on rental gear lists for productions.
  • Support Head Electrician in infrastructure needs for video and sound support systems.
  • Assist in house and facilities electrics needs under the Local One Jurisdiction.
  • Effectively lead, manage Sound Crew Members for load in, rehearsals, performances, maintenance, and load out of all productions, as well as house gear maintenance.
  • Ensure occupational health and safety of the Sound Department crew members and lead by example with the implementation of best practices to prevent injuries.
  • Other duties as reasonably assigned.

 

Required Experience and Qualification:

  • 5+ years prior experience in a Production Sound position in dance, theater, opera, and/or corporate theater – previous touring experience a plus but not required.
  • Knowledge of stage electrical components and construction methods, along with occupational health and safety best practices.
  • Proficient skill with both Windows and Mac Operating Systems, as well as excel, Outlook, and Vectorworks software.
  • Proficient in Soundboard language and use, primarily Studer and Yamaha consoles.
  • Proficient in Sound technology/software, infrastructure and equipment, such as: Dante, Timecode, networking.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and stay on your feet most of the workday.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to lead a team and collaborate with other leaders in the absence of the Head Electrician.
