JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Director of Facilities; the Aquatic Manager is responsible for year-round management of the Pelican Harbor Indoor/Outdoor Aquatic Complex. This includes staff management, as well as planning, budgeting, evaluation, and promoting of all aquatic complex programs, events, services, membership sales and engagement, and activities to meet quality, cost and community criteria.

Position Aquatic Manager  
Position Requirements

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING

  • Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation or related field
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in aquatic management
  • Certified Park & Recreation Professional (CPRP) preferred
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or must be obtained within 6 months after hire
  • Starguard® Elite Lifeguard Instructor Certification must be obtained within 6 months after hire
  • Membership sales experience preferred
  • Food Handler & Sanitation Manager Food Certification must be obtained within 6 months after hire
  • Valid driver’s license and availability of a car

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge and hands-on experience of facility management, waterpark operations, and aquatic programming
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience with general pool operations including water chemistry
  • Ability to demonstrate good judgment in decision making with safety of park patrons and staff as primary goal
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience of marketing and management
  • Knowledge of labor laws, hiring, discipline, reviewing and scheduling of staff
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of programs
  • Ability to learn software for invoices, payroll and programming

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Duties

  • Responsible for the recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, evaluation, and provide disciplinary action when necessary for all full time, part time staff and seasonal staff.
  • Manage staff hours and schedules and approve bi-weekly payroll.
  • Maintain accurate records of staff training documentation: dates, agendas/itineraries, attendance and staff certifications.
  • Responsible for planning, staffing, promoting, implementation, and evaluation of programs, events, membership engagement activities, and the operation of the aquatic facilities.
  • Create, implement, manage, and evaluate management procedures for aquatic facilities
  • Manage all aquatic operations for safety and quality, submitting work orders as need and coordinate these needs with building staff building maintenance staff.
  • Manage all aspects of the outdoor aquatic park concession operation, including ordering and inventory.
  • Monitor membership sales, create membership sales plan, and engage current members for the aquatic facilities.
  • Manage cash receipts processing for the aquatic operation.
  • Order, approve invoices and complete purchase orders for processing in the business office.
  • Maintain accurate records of water chemical levels. Ensure all water, environmental, health, and safety standards are met on a daily basis.
  • Review and edit park district brochure pages for each season and monthly group/aquatic fitness schedule.
  • Prepare and administer the annual budget for the operation of the aquatic facilities.
  • Prepare and submit daily, monthly, quarterly and annual reports as required.
  • Prepare and maintain records of facility operations, usage, occupancy, membership sales and retention, and scheduling for reference in future years.
  • Teach and train Emergency Operations Management Plan with staff in preparation for any and all emergencies.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, health and loss control policies and procedures of the District.
  • Create and maintain productive working relationships with park district staff, aquatic members and guests, Will County Health Department, Starfish Aquatics Institute, and key stakeholders

  • Abide by the Bolingbrook Park District dress code for your area
  • Perform all job tasks within the rules and guidelines of the Park District’s safety program.
  • Work as a Team Player with co-workers and in conjunction with other departments.

Marginal Duties

  • Make recommendations for events, programs, fees, promotions, and special events.
  • Serve on the District's safety committee.
  • Maintain the facility in a clean and safe environment for patrons and employees.
  • Work in partnership with the Marketing & Communications Manager to develop and implement a marketing strategy including publicity, advertising and promotions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Talking/Hearing: to community with staff and public; for training

Seeing: to view pool staff for evaluations and to obtain information from written materials; to work on a computer

Walking: to get around pool areas; oversee indoor and outdoor facilities and concessions

Climbing: to get to top of slides and storage area

Sitting: to work on computer; to drive a car

Reaching: for trainings, to write at desk; to retrieve files and manuals

Pulling/Pushing: to open drawers; to open doors, move equipment

Stooping/Crouching: to train, for inventory and to retrieve files at lower levels

Swimming: to train aquatic staff and lifeguards

 

COGNITIVE CONSIDERATIONS

Must have the ability to understand, and compile budget in excess of $1,500,000. Must be on call 24 hours for emergency circumstances. Must have skills to plan, schedule, direct and supervise staff. Must have the ability to read, write and organize materials. Must have above average ability to use basic computer programs. Must be able to relate to other people in a professional manner.

FLSA

This is a full time, salary, exempt position.

IMRF

This position is required to participate in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund.

HOURS

The Aquatic Manager shall have no established hours, yet is expected to invest the time necessary to produce exceptional results.
