Job Summary

The Law Department handles litigation and provides legal advice to all Company departments on a variety of matters that affect the Company. Additionally, the Law Department serves as the Compliance Department, the Corporate Secretary, and the Risk Manager of the Company. As the Compliance Department, it is responsible for maintaining compliance with various laws and regulations. In its capacity as Corporate Secretary, the Law Department maintains the shareholder records and records of other board committee meetings. This office also administers the Stock Option Plan, and is the Risk Manager for the Company, overseeing most property and casualty insurance coverage that pertain to the Company. The Law Department handles and coordinates all legal matters for the Company, including employment law, contract review, pension plans, tax law, etc.

This position reports to VP – Corporate Counsel.

 

Essential Functions

  • Assist with Discovery and other pre-litigation activities
  • Legal research
  • Assist attorneys with correspondence, memoranda, relating to complaints, investigations, and market conduct exams
  • Assist in contract review
  • Assist in advertising review
  • Perform other duties as assigned
 
Position Requirements

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Basic arithmetic ability required
  • Ability to read, understand and carry out complex instructions
  • Ability to set and maintain work priorities
  • Ability to compose letters

 

Education & Experience

  • 1 semester year of law school required
