Generalist, People and Culture

Job Summary:

In this role, you will report to the Chief People & Culture Officer, while working alongside members of the Academy People & Culture teams. This role is responsible for various aspects of People & Culture including employee engagement, benefits, payroll, coordinating various projects, onboarding new employees, interpretation of policies, conducting P&C audits, and ad-hoc P&C reporting. The ideal candidate is knowledgeable of P&C workflow processes, has a passion for providing a positive employee experience, is a creative and effective communicator, and is extremely organized, detail-oriented, efficient, and a self-starter.

This position is based in Los Angeles and is hybrid. Onsite work is required three (3) days per week.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Recommend and help to implement strategies that strengthen and develop employee engagement through events and initiatives that touch employees throughout their career at the Academy.
  • Develop and leverage effective and sustainable feedback processes to ensure staff feedback is considered in making programming decisions.
  • Manage the planning and administration of annual open enrollment, and other benefit changes throughout the year.
  • Oversee the onboarding process, ensuring new employees are set up for success by liaising with cross-functional teams to help with training.
  • Assist in conducting exit interviews.
  • Manage the HRIS system, including data updates of all employee information changes and additions. Regularly run standard and ad-hoc reports.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local legal requirements by reviewing existing and new legislation; and advising management on needed actions.
  • Provide support in areas of 401(k), payroll, worker’s compensation, FMLA, ADA, and OSHA recordkeeping.
  • Partner with Accounting, IT, and other internal functions to improve HR operational workflows and ensure the integrity of HR data.
  • Prioritize conflicting needs, handle matters expeditiously and proactively, and follow through on projects to successful completion.
  • Create and edit presentations, spreadsheets, communications, databases, reports, and org charts.
  • Works effectively as a team member with other members of management and the People & Culture team.
  • Maintain absolute discretion and confidentiality at all times.

 

 
Position Requirements

Qualifications and Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree plus 3 – 5 years of professional work experience in various aspects of Human Resources inclusive of benefits, payroll, employee onboarding, and HR audits is required; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered instead of the Bachelor’s degree.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in human resources or a related field is preferred. Examples of related fields include Psychology, Business Administration and Organizational Management.
  • PHR certification is preferred.
  • Adaptability combined with a positive attitude and desire to proactively present new HR ideas and strategies.
  • Proven project management and organization skills with a proven ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills while exercising sound judgment.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with ADP Workforce and Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain collaborative and objective while under pressure.
  • Proven ability to self-manage and self-direct multiple competing priorities.
  • Ability to multitask while working in an environment with demanding timeframes and competing interests.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, including presentation skills and the ability to write concise reports.
  • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate People & Culture team members.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommends best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources and employment law.
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

The expected starting salary for this role is $68,000.00. The actual base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and other factors permitted by law. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis.
