Estimating Manager 

Description

The Estimating Manager is charged with managing and coordinating the estimators and estimating process and owning the estimate completeness. The Estimating Manager is also expected to be able to quickly and accurately perform all estimating duties when needed.

  • Work with Project Development team members to develop and coordinate estimating efforts and project requirements
  • Assign, coordinate and track estimating assignments and deadlines for estimating staff
  • Mentor and support estimators
  • Perform estimate and takeoff reviews prior to final review with VP of Preconstruction, independently completing quantity take-off when needed
  • Independently solicit, analyze, and organize bids from subcontractors and suppliers, accurately transferring that information into a proposal package
  • Independently compile accurate estimates or proposals to submit for management use in planning, organizing, and scheduling work
  • Coordinate attendance for pre-bid meetings and/or site visits
  • Analyze blueprints and other documentation to verify accurate information is provided, and to accurately prepare time, cost, and materials estimates
  • Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects, or services; tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops
  • Track actual cost relative to bids as the project develops to improve future bid packages
  • Become a trusted resource for all facets of estimating needs
  • Provide basic support for all departments as needed, along with other assigned duties

Drive Innovation

  • Requires continuous improvement mindset and creative thinking; lead & participate in continuous improvement of processes to eliminate waste and improve customer experience.
  • Install, update, maintain, and utilize the appropriate technology to provide best in class project solutions. This includes estimating (Sage®) and other web-based collaboration tools.
  • Lead the development of the estimating team's knowledge, including technology training
  • Work with VP of Preconstruction to develop and monitor goals for estimators

Travel Expectations

  • Occasional overnight travel expected by plane or car

Work Environment

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently in an office environment
  • Frequent activities of office environment include sitting, standing, walking, typing and other computer work, using telephone and other standard office equipment
  • Occasional activities of office environment include balancing, bending/stooping, reaching above shoulder, repetitive motion

Position Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related experience preferred
  • Exceptional communication and effective listening skills
  • 8+ years construction estimating experience preferred
  • 2+ years of management/supervision required
  • Ability to read people and adjust approach to yield best results
  • Effective contributor and team player, which can plan and organize a team with the capacity to motivate and boost morale
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and estimating software
