Description

The Communications Coordinator contributes to plans and initiatives that support the food bank’s awareness and audience engagement goals through compelling narratives and creative storytelling. This position supports the development of materials for multiple channels that inform and engage key stakeholders. Major responsibilities include writing and designing content for the CAFB’s social media channels, email newsletter, and website; helping to develop informational assets including issue briefs and fact sheets; and supporting the production of multimedia assets including photos and video. This position also plays a role in the food bank’s media relations work, helping to identify potential stories that highlight the organization’s impact and future vision, crafting press releases, and ensuring that the organization’s media resources are up to date.

Essential Functions:

Content Creation: 50%

  • Partner with colleagues across the organization to identify and tell stories that highlight key aspects of the food bank’s work and the voices of the people it serves.
  • Contribute to the writing, editing, and/or design process for the organization’s publications, including blogs, newsletters, and annual reports.
  • Assist with the creation and organization of materials within the organization’s bank of communications resources, including fact sheets, infographics, flyer and PPT templates, photos, and other standardized materials.
  • Generate both original and curated content for the food bank’s social media channels, including basic graphic design through use of Canva or other design tools.
  • Support program team members with creation of social media content for key CAFB initiatives (e.g. Curbside Groceries)
  • Support internal communications activities as needed.

Website and Social Media Maintenance: 40%

  • Maintain the food bank’s web content, working with colleagues to ensure accuracy and updating as information and messaging changes.
  • Create new web pages, blog posts, press releases, and other web assets and updates as needed, working with external contractors when required
  • Manage the posting and scheduling of content across all of the food bank’s social channels
  • Monitor the food bank’s social media channels, engaging with posts, monitoring conversations online, and promptly flagging comments or other activity requiring quick attention.

Media and PR Support: 10%

  • Assist with identifying compelling organizational storylines that can help to amplify the food bank’s visibility.
  • Contribute to periodic press releases
  • Maintain the media section on the food bank’s website
  • Support the creation of talking points and other preparatory materials for team members giving interviews
  • Manage logistics of media events or interviews as needed

Miscellaneous

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
 
Position Requirements
  • At least a 4-year degree in relevant field or equivalent experience
  • Exceptional writing skills, both technical and creative, a must, with capacity to write and edit for a variety of mediums.
  • Experience with copywriting, photography, graphic design and/or video editing projects
  • Proficiency in major digital platforms and associated analytics and reporting: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Google Analytics
  • Proficiency in basic HTML and Wordpress
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative products and/or Canva design tools
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, Power Point and Outlook 

Other Skills, Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with a broad range of audiences within the organization
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and flexibility
  • Capacity to work individually and as part of a team
  • Experience with media relations, including press release writing and story development, a plus
  • Experience with video-editing software desirable
  • Spanish language skills desirable
  • Commitment to understanding and supporting the CAFB’s service model and mission.

Reporting:

  • This role reports to the Manager of MarComm

Schedule: 

  • Normal working hours are 9am to 5pm Monday - Friday 
  • Hybrid schedule available 

Compensation:

  • Compensation is $48,000 to $53,000/annually
