The Integrated Systems Department of NEC Labs America invites applications for 2024 summer internships. Our research projects cover many areas of large, multimodal real-time AI systems that are realized on distributed infrastructure. The internships will involve research and development of real-world use of AI/ML in large scale systems. Experience with design, deployment and optimization of real-time systems for video and audio analytics, multi-sensor stream fusion, stream processing (self-optimizing analytics pipelines), edge-cloud computing, or optimization of analytics applications over wireless networks will be quite useful for the internship.
Minimum duration of the internships are usually 3 months and the exact dates are flexible. Publishing is an integral part of our activities to conduct leading edge research and development. Our projects emphasize systems technologies that allow real-world applications to gain utility from state of the art AI and machine learning models, techniques and computing architectures.

• Currently enrolled in PhD/MS program in computer science (or equivalent)
• Good research record and exposure to building large and complex distributed systems
• Exposure to cloud computing, design of parallel software, and applications of AI/ML models
• Programming skills in C, C++, Python
