Crisis Department Manager 

Description

Purpose: Responsible for the oversight and leadership of walk-in Crisis Services, Mobile Crisis Response, Co-Responders, Jail and Hospital Liaisons. Provides supervision, development of array of emergency and stabilization services being provided on a 24-hour basis. Works with Director of Crisis and Executive Director to design and develop programs to enhance and develop emergency care for adults in a psychiatric crisis. Reports to Crisis Director and is a collaborative member of the Wyandot Center leadership team.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

    • Supervises staff providing direct services to clients who are in a psychiatric crisis, who act as liaisons to community partners and who provide crisis interventions, assessment, access and emergency treatment services.
    • Support and provide coverage for the other functions in the crisis department, as needed.
    • Holds and models a philosophy of compassion, empathy, and flexibility in the delivery of care.
    • Able and willing to be available and supportive to staff 24/7, as needed.
    • Manages and maintains clinical certifications for crisis care.
    • Contributes to the provision of Trauma Informed Care.
    • Participates in management functions of clinical services to adults.
    • Participates in hiring and training of staff.
    • Provides crisis intervention, assessments, community/mobile outreach services, and short-term crisis treatment as needed.
    • Assists with the development of diversion plans to avert hospitalizations and/or arrests/time in jail for adults and children, provides consultation regarding hospital admissions and discharges.
    • Works with community/government agencies to ensure appropriate services are provided to consumers.
    • Confers with various Center staff to ensure optimum consumer care and documentation accountability.
    • Participates in local and state government planning regarding new initiatives, with a strong emphasis on initiatives targeting justice involved clients.
    • Ensures staff and program compliance with Medicaid, State licensing regulations, grant and other contractual standards, and agency standards (including productivity, documentation and quality of services).
    • Monitors program data and develops reports to ensure appropriate accountability.

    • Facilitates presentations, meetings, training and projects, as requested.
    • Participates on other committees, panels, and community groups, as requested.
    • Takes a Solutions-Focused/Problem Solving approach when interacting with community partners.
    • Program design and budgetary responsibility.
    • Performs other duties as required.

Accountability:

  • Reports to Crisis Director.
  • Leads and directs the work of clinical and professional staff and work-related committees.
  • As a member of the Leadership Team, demonstrate and uphold in all interactions and decisions the Center’s standards regarding business and operational practices, budgetary considerations, and ethical and legal obligations. Models' behaviors to exemplify the Mission, Vision and Values of Wyandot Center, compliance to all applicable Center policies, local state and federal laws and those expectations and requirements [legal, professional and otherwise assumed] specific to management-level job responsibilities at Wyandot Center. Decisions have a direct impact on organizational policy, budget and Center clinical and business operations that impact Center reputation, licensing and liability in relation to services and care, federal, state and local laws and regulations and practices and employment law and practices. Relies on extensive experience and sound judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

Minimum Qualifications, Expertise and Training:

Must be a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP); advanced clinical licensure preferred.

  • 3-5 years’ experience with emergency mental health care preferred. With preference for previous supervision and/or training experience in the field
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including verbal, written and presentation skills. Includes ability to adapt style of communication.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with both Center staff and various agencies.
  • Ability to provide leadership and direction for programs, planning and supervisory purposes.
  • Ability to recognize and be sensitive to cultural and ethnic differences.
  • Must be able to safely perform essential job functions, with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Demonstrated high level of organizational and program development skills.
  • Clearance through the Kansas Child Abuse/Neglect Register, criminal background check, reference verification and all other screening and employment processes.
  • Possesses working knowledge of roles of various regulatory agencies affecting the functioning of a community service organization.
  • Ability to analyze data and recommend strategies that reflect an adherence to standards, outcomes, and efficiency in resource applications and budgeting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with highest level of confidentiality and business ethics in relation to Center and consumer information and access.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative environment. Ability to work as a business partner with all departments/functions and use Center goals, philosophy, mission, vision and values as operating drivers in all recommendations and decisions.
  • Must be able to safely perform the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations. Location/Travel/Work Conditions and Considerations: Based at a central location, assigned duties may require activity at other Center locations, various community sites or business locations. Travel may be required for a variety of business reasons such as meetings, conferences, community outreach, education, etc…and may include traveling with a client in own vehicle.
