SCENIC PRODUCTION MANAGER

SUMMARY:

The Scenic Production Manager will coordinate, plan and facilitate installation of scenic and staging projects including sets and scenic items. Handles project management including budgeting of custom scenic pieces as well as creation of construction drawings, build schedules, and establish deadlines with vendors. Will work as the project manager for stand-alone scenic jobs.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or four years' related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3-5 years of carpentry and construction planning and execution in a production or theater environment including: estimating construction and labor costs, material selection, creating construction drawings, managing construction labor, woodworking, metalworking, painting, and finish carpentry.
  •  Intermediate knowledge of VectorWorks CAD program as well as the ability to learn our scheduling program.
  • Requires highest level communication skills, project management, organizational skills, and the ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects.
  • Detail oriented and focused on turning out high quality work for our clients.
  • Valid drivers license required. Required to obtain US Passport and medical card if necessary. Must be available for 40% travel and work flexible hours.

  •  Manages the growth and development of the scenic team.
  •  Maintains inventories of building materials and supplies with the approval of the Director of Event Operations to continue the daily functions of the shop.
  • Oversees technical design, fabrication, budget, and installation of scenic elements.
  • Works closely with creative teams to provide guidance and cost estimates for custom scenic design, which may include vendor selection and quote requests.
  •  Works with and guides co-workers as needed to ensure completing construction and repair projects in an efficient and timely manner.
  •  Knowledge of and adherence to safe working conditions within the Scenic Shop.
  • Works independently on construction projects that may include sets, remodeling of various Mills James facilities, building custom consoles and furniture, building custom road cases and other building and maintenance projects as assigned.
  •  Ability to program and operate a 5 axis CNC Machine a plus.
