Position Summary

The Railcar Planner will manage the scheduling and forecast of all railcars that are coming in and leaving the Pearland location to meet the production, blending, and reaction schedules. As required by our customer demands, the Railcar Planner will plan accordingly with all operations schedules to ensure and meet customers on-time delivery from Third Coast.

Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Create a daily list of Railcars to call in from BNSF yard.
  • Forecast the disposition of how and when each railcar will be used in the plant to meet customer deadlines.
  • Coordinate the disbursement of each railcar with plant supervisors.
  • Review the “Before and After Switch” report at the beginning of each day to establish if the request was completed. If not completed, reschedule the car based on the cause of the initial delay.
  • Reschedule railcars whenever BNSF fails to deliver as promised.
  • Communicate with our BNSF logistics contractor to trace incoming cars and schedule releases.
  • Work together with the Rail Logistic to ensure that cars get moved per the schedule.
  • Preemptively get together with CSR to figure out the disbursement and schedule for each railcar that will come to the Pearland location. Ensure all Dynamics updates and paperwork preparation are completed prior to arrival.
  • Request crucial information from CSR such as Bill of Lading, Certificate of Approval, and Load Number.
  • Work together with the Raw Materials Coordinator to check on the levels of key stock tanks and determine when rail cars can be used to fill them.
  • Provide direction to the commercial team regarding availability, or conflicts caused by, the addition of new products including tank location, load/unloading rail spots and production spotting for drumming requirements.
  • Work together with the schedulers to coordinate railcars that are going to packaging, blending, transloading or reaction.
  • Daily review of the Physical Rail Inventory confirming if it’s up to date.
  • Create and provide monthly reports on railcar activity. (Including but not limited to rail car daily activity within the plant and other metrics)
  • Develop knowledge and understanding of the BNSF website and distribute relevant necessary within TC as necessary.
  • This is a summary and does not include all responsibilities. Job duties and responsibilities can/will change under the direction of the Supervisor’s discretion.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience with rail coordination.
  • Detail oriented with excellent organization skills and good collaboration.
  • Proficient in working with Microsoft Office Excel, Word, Outlook, and Dynamics.
  • Ability to work within a team or independently as required.
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills are required: both oral and written.
  • Problem Solving and Problem Analysis skills.

Physical Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to use their hands to handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
