Job Summary

Responsible for developing census and quality mix by providing prospective patients and/or responsible parties with appropriate information and assistance to the nursing center.

Patient/Resident’s Rights

  • Knows and respects patient’s rights
  • Ensures protected health information is kept confidential
  • Reports complaints made by patients to supervisor
  • Reports all allegations of patient abuse, neglect and/or misappropriation of patient property

Safety and Sanitation

  • Follows established safety policies and procedures
  • Wears and/or uses safety equipment and supplies when indicated and properly trained to use
  • Demonstrates job-specific knowledge of fire and disaster preparedness during drills or actual situations

Staff Development

  • Attends and participates in scheduled in-service training, educational classes and meetings.

Sales Responsibilities

  • Handles walk-in or telephone inquiries and invites referral source to nursing center; follows-up on inquiries by conducting tours of the center, completing inquiry electronic system for admissions, and providing patient’s family with brochures about nursing home, Medicare facts, and room rates; Gathers nursing information from e-discharge system, or floor nurse at hospital.
  • Maintains necessary knowledge of served market areas, patient origin, and major referral sources.
  • Plans, coordinates and executes community referral source events.

Admissions Process Responsibilities

  • Manages incoming inquiries, as needed, dependent on sales model
  • Uses clinical inventory to evaluate patients for admission; when necessary, visits prospective patients in the hospital and makes assessment regarding his/her suitability for admission in the nursing center, when required;
  • Contacts Social Services Department to verify eligibility; Contacts insurance companies to determine or verify coverage; Meets in center with families upon or before admission to sign paperwork, timely and accurately.
  • Records information that identifies physician and patient, type of accommodation required, insurance coverage, and date of admission, inspects patient’s room prior to admission, active role in morning kick off meeting
  • Arranges for room accommodation changes; Gives families a list of all department heads and a patient handbook, and interprets nursing home regulations to patient concerning visitors, visiting hours, and disposition of clothing and valuables.
  • Maintains thorough knowledge of center’s products, services, capabilities, physician relations and payer sources

Customer Satisfaction Responsibilities

  • May assist Administrator in contacting families after admission and discharge to personally determine satisfaction.
  • Provides timely follow-up on family or guarantor complaints and problem solves with patients and/or staff.
  • Inspects patient’s room prior to admission; Notifies particular wing to expect patient and arranges for escort to room.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Reports observations concerning structural, equipment and furniture defects and malfunctioning to appropriate personnel.
  • At the direction of the Admission Director , may be asked to attend and participate in staff meetings, departmental head meetings, or other center meetings.
  • Performs any miscellaneous work assignments as may be required.

Education & Experience

  • College degree preferred.
  • Sales experience, particularly in health care services
  • Familiarity with long-term care and/or health care services useful.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

  • Work is primarily sedentary in nature, with exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for periods of time to give center tours, etc.
  • Occasional Travel
  • Primarily inside with well-lighted and well-ventilated areas.

Educational Requirements Centers with more than 120 Beds: Bachelors in Social Work or a Bachelor's in Human Services field, including but not limited to Sociology, Special Education, Rehabilitation Counseling and Psychology; Licensed where required by law.Centers with 120 Beds or less: High School Diploma required; Bachelors in Social Work or a Human Services field desirable; Licensed where required by law.
