Fleet Manager (Apex, NC) 

Description

Efficiently manages and directs all aspects of the Repair Shop and Parts Department's operations in a manner which ensures maximum benefits for the Company. Maintains adequate parts inventory while minimizing obsolescence; maintaining proper reporting and financial controls; and ensuring adherence to all practices and policies required to meet these objectives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Directly responsible for the Shop staff to include staff work schedules, leadership/mentoring/coaching and annual reviews.

Facilitates Shop work orders and follow-up with the appropriate personnel.

Responsible for procuring supplies, parts & equipment by establishing optimum inventory levels and reordering quantities; expected to monitor inventory to ensure all are adequately stocked for work being performed.

Responsible for building relationships with parts vendors; searching out and negotiating best price.

Responsible for negotiating and scheduling deliveries of supplies, parts & equipment with trucking companies; follow up with orders to ensure verification of orders and to ensure timely deliveries and availability to receive. Communicate potential setbacks with receiving scheduled orders; out of stock, delayed deliveries, etc. with Field Operations Manager and Pavement Marking Managers.

Responsible for packing & shipping and receiving of parts, packages, etc. via various vendors; i.e. Federal Express, UPS.

Seeks out new vendors, suppliers and manufacturers and negotiates terms and pricing; utilizes all available discounts without exceeding stocking parameters.

Oversees contracts or services for Fleet and Service Management, Fuel Management systems, Bulk Oil service etc.

Serve as a 'help desk' for answering questions and distributing equipment, parts, and supplies, as needed, to field personnel; professional, friendly, courteous manner expected when providing customer service.

Proficient with maintaining Dossier to include data entry & printing of reports to: track inventory & parts usage, receive parts, produce repair work orders for Shop, track preventive maintenance on Company fleet.

Establishes and maintains logical locations for all parts and notes location in Dossier by part

number.

Proficient with maintaining Fuel Serve; run hours of service reports to determine when preventative maintenance is to be scheduled on Company fleet. Responsible for troubleshooting and correcting problems when system fails, etc.

Organizes and maintains the Repair Shop and Parts Department in the most efficient layout; practices good housekeeping skills to ensure a safe work area.

Responsible for general housekeeping in the Parts Room, Repair Shop and Wash Bay areas. Coordinates task with Shop Technicians.

Directs and oversees an annual physical inventory of department. Performs monthly cycle count of parts.

Responsible for putting new trucks into service per Roadsafe's documented procedures.

Tracks and monitors all invoices and credits to verify accuracy. Reviews and approves purchase order invoices prior to payment.

Performs monthly safety inspection all shop and repair equipment in and outside of the building.

Endorses and practices safe operational procedures and Company policies.

Maintains professional appearance.

Attends Company meetings and managers' meetings as requested.

 
Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; plus 7 years related experience to include management and supervisory responsibilities; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively one-on-one or before small groups of employees.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Proficient with Microsoft Office environment; knowledge and/or experience with inventory tracking systems; strong inventory control/management skills, independent decision maker, strong knowledge of heavy truck parts, mechanically inclined; excellent organizational and follow-up skills, good communication skills and ability to interact well with others in a professional, friendly, courteous manner.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to make independent decisions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid NC driver’s license; Forklift certified or ability to be trained
