The Position:

The FSS Family Relationships Facilitator will collaborate with parents, school administrators, and public and private entities to support couples and families in building skills to lead more fulfilling lives and strengthen parenting practices. The facilitator will work with participants to strengthen fathering skills, relationship skills, understanding of developmental milestones, and guide individuals and families in overcoming obstacles to self-sufficiency. Utilizing the Protective Factors Framework, the Family Relationships Facilitator will provide and/or link couples and families to comprehensive services in support of a child’s lifelong learning, health, and behavior. Through screening and assessment, parent and relationship education, home visitation, case management, and/or service linkage, the Family Relationships Facilitator will identify risks, promote strengths, and equip parents with the skills and knowledge needed to provide nurturing environments and overcome sources of stress. This position may require working some evenings and/or weekends.

Sample Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Facilitate classes, workshops, and home visitation focusing on healthy relationships and parenting skills utilizing approved curriculum.
  2. Conduct outreach, recruitment, and engagement for parents, couples, fathers and male parental figures to participate in services.
  3. Utilize assessment skills and screening tools to triage families and determine appropriate services (case management, information and referral, parent education, economic stability services). Work in collaboration with colleagues to provide a continuum of care.
  4. Coordinate classes with co-facilitator and community partners in an effort to best accommodate participants' needs.
  5. Complete pre-program evaluation to ensure the curriculum is tailored to the needs and identified risks of participants.
  6. Support participants in developing positive parenting skills through the use of effective communication and understanding of developmental milestones.
  7. Demonstrate knowledge of local resources and provide information and referral when warranted.
 
Position Requirements

Employment Standards:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in sociology, social work, education, or related field preferred.
  2. Bilingual in English and Spanish required.
  3. Comfortable facilitating community workshops and classes with participants of all ages and backgrounds.
  4. Demonstrate knowledge of the following topics: parent education, developmental milestones, effective communication, overcoming obstacles to self-sufficiency, conflict management, and stress management.
  5. Familiarity with community resources and knowledge of family stability resources.
  6. Computer and Internet literacy and excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  7. Proficient in Microsoft Office; can adapt to using various types of software.
  8. Valid automobile insurance and a valid California Driver License are required.
  9. Reliable transportation is necessary to travel throughout Santa Barbara County.
  10. Staff who have been employed in this position for at least three years may be eligible to move to the II level.

Classification, Hours and Pay Rate:

  • This position is full-time (40 hours/week), non-exempt, with benefits, including: medical, dental, vision,  life insurance, flexible spending accounts and 403(b) retirement plan. Generous vacation, holiday and sick leave also offered.
  • Pay is dependent on education and experience. Starting pay is $24.00/hour.
