On-Call, Events A/V Technician (Part-Time)

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Events A/V, the Events A/V Technician will be responsible for assisting in the technical operation and internal event production for non-exhibition audio/visual experiences at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. This includes events across our unique campus and all Academy facilities.

This is an unrestricted, on-call position working 20 hours per week that may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work as on-call technical staff for AMPAS and Academy Museum events.
  • Deploy, operate, and wrap in-house lighting, audio, and video equipment.
  • Assist with hybrid meetings and teleconferencing.
  • Support live streaming events.
  • Test A/V equipment and perform troubleshooting.
  • Abide by all health and safety protocols put in place to protect yourself and co-workers.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
 
Position Requirements

Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent certification of completion required.
  • A valid driver’s license or ability to obtain a driver’s license within the first 30 days of employment.
  • 3+ years of combined experience working as either a theatrical lighting technician, a front-of-house audio engineer or teleconferencing technician.
  • Strong knowledge of state-of-the-industry lighting, audio, live recording, and video equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate theatrical lighting and digital audio consoles.
  • Knowledge of Zoom and Zoom Rooms is a plus.
  • Ability to resolve minor technical issues as they arise with audio, microphones, and lighting consoles.
  • Customer service experience at museums, theaters, or cultural attractions is a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate with guests, supervisors, peers, and vendors.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • A curiosity and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Experience working in high-volume and fast-paced situations.
  • A commitment to diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion.
  • Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and short-notice events.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to occasionally move A/V equipment weighing up to 30 pounds for various events and productions.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for up to two hours.

 

Full vaccination against COVID-19 is required including any booster vaccinations as applicable.

 

This position will be an Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences employee but will report to the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures.

 

The expected base hourly wage range for this role is $25 to $27. The actual base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and other factors permitted by law. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis.
