Astronics-PECO, located in picturesque Clackamas, Oregon near the foothills of Mt. Hood, designs, certifies, manufactures, and sells a wide range of products to commercial, government, and military markets throughout the world. The Max-Viz enhanced visions systems (EVS) are designed and certified for use as an improvement to safety by a vast array of airplanes, helicopters, and unmanned-aerial-vehicles in the commercial, government, and military marketplace. PECO-Controls are well established temperature control devices designed for applications where high quality is a must, such as the hospitality industry, commercial cooking, and other critical applications.

 

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Electrical Engineer to join our team, specializing in the development of camera systems that seamlessly blend input from infrared (IR) and visible light sensors into a single video feed. As an Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, integrating, and qualifying camera systems for display on various platforms, including multi-functional displays in aircraft cockpits. In addition, you will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with certification authorities such as the FAA and EASA, as well as developing new technologies and upgrading existing systems to meet DAL D requirements.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop camera systems that integrate Long Wave Infrared (LWIR) and visible sensors to provide a combined video output.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to define system requirements, including image quality, resolution, frame rate, and sensor specifications.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, system architecture design, and hardware/software integration for camera systems.
  • Develop signal processing algorithms to enhance image quality, reduce noise, and optimize performance in various lighting conditions.
  • Conduct thorough testing, verification, and validation of camera systems to ensure compliance with industry standards and certification requirements.
  • Collaborate with external certification authorities, such as the FAA and EASA, to obtain equipment qualification and ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest technological advancements and industry trends related to camera systems, image sensors, and display technologies.
  • Lead or contribute to the development of new technologies and techniques to improve camera system performance and functionality.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot system issues, propose solutions, and implement corrective actions.
  • Provide technical expertise and support to cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, integration, and customer support.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent training and experience.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in camera system design, image processing, and sensor technologies (especially LWIR sensors).
  • Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., C/C++, Visual C/C++/Basic) for embedded system and production tool development.
  • Proficiency in hardware development using VHDL to implement video processing algorithms or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and certification processes (RTCA D0-178C and RTCA DO-254) for avionics equipment certification.
  • Experience with developing hardware to DO-254 DAL D requirements and compliance.
  • Experience with developing software to DO-178C DAL requirements and compliance.
  • Proficient in using simulation (including VHDL Test Benches or equivalent) and modeling tools for system design and analysis.
  • Solid understanding of electrical circuits, signal processing, and video display technologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Experience with project management and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.

 

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Master's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with RTCA DO-160G for avionic equipment qualification.
  • Experience with developing camera systems for aerospace applications or other safety-critical industries.
  • Familiarity with human-machine interface (HMI) design principles and cockpit display systems.
  • Knowledge of regulatory guidelines and standards specific to avionics and camera systems.
  • Joining our team as an Electrical Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in advancing camera system technology, ensuring compliance with regulatory authorities, and contributing to the safety and efficiency of aviation operations.
