Position Summary:

The Program Assistant is responsible for the administrative activities of House of Ruth Maryland’s abuse intervention program, the Gateway Project, which engages people who have used abusive behaviors against an intimate partner. This position the first contact the public has with the Gateway Project and is responsible for setting a helpful, welcoming, and informed tone.

A high percentage of participants are court mandated to attend the program, so responsiveness and accurate documentation of the program’s application and enrollment process, applicant/participant tracking and reporting, and routine administrative activities are a high priority. The Administrative Assistant is responsible for generating and assisting in the maintenance both electronic and paper files for applicants and participants, as well as, generating and distributing communications to participants, their victims/partners and legal professionals.

Some individuals reaching out to Gateway Project have negative experiences with family and community violence, the criminal legal system, or other social services, which may impact how they interact with the House of Ruth Maryland staff. The Program Assistant must be comfortable engaging traumatized people, who may present for assistance in a variety of emotional states and not always be clear about what they are seeking from us. The Program Assistant will engage people with sensitivity, with safety in mind, and assist them in getting the right information or contact to address their needs in an efficient and confidential manner.

Standard Schedule:

The standard hours for this position are Monday through Thursday, 9am to 7pm. Reasonable flexibility in schedule is expected of all Gateway Project staff to support the site coverage and the continuity of service delivery when others are using their paid time off.
