Description

The Registered Nurse position at North Suffolk Cardiology’s Intensive Cardiac Rehabilitation (ICR) would be to assist in monitoring and progressing patients in the gym space, considering their current health and disease status. The ICR Nurse would be working in an interdisciplinary setting, with strong collaboration required between the ICR Program Administrator, Exercise Physiologist (EP), Registered Dietitian (RD) and Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).

On the days where the RN is not required in the ICR gym, or to assist with ICR-intakes, projects/tasks, they will be required to extend help to the NSC Nuclear department. This would entail triage messages, patient outreach, and delivering results from diagnostic tests.

Registered nurses must hold a current license to practice as an RN in New York, the successful completion of an ACLS course. Should display clinical competency, especially regarding cardiovascular patients and associated comorbidities of those with cardiovascular pathophysiology.

 

  • Collaborate with EP, RD and LCSW to provide best plan of care for each patient on an individual and holistic basis
  • Proficient in patient education regarding health/disease status, associated therapies, and ongoing benefits in program participation and completion
  • Proficiency in conducting and interpreting initial patient intakes to the program, including interpretation of subjective and objective reports of past medical, psychosocial, and personal histories.
  • Assist the Exercise Physiologist in the gym by enforcing proper equipment, safety, and progression protocols, and monitoring for arrhythmias or changes to functional status.
  • Collaborate with EP to establish proper procedures in initiating and progressing an exercise program
  • Establish positive and supportive rapport with patients
  • Successful completion of Pritikin LLC course materials, and proficiency in dissemination information to patients
  • Mediate clear and open communication between the patient and their primary care provider and/or cardiologist.
  • Educate patients on the importance of maintaining pre-established plan of care with PCP (Primary Care Physician) and cardiologist while starting the new exercise program
  • Accurately take, categorize, and interpret cardiac rhythms, physiological, observational, and subjective measures of health
  • Ability to operate with a caseload of patients up to 8 at a time, and 56 per day
  • NSC Nuclear Nurse:
  • Patient monitoring while in PET/CT and SPECT waiting rooms and testing
  • Providing patients with results from a variety of diagnostic testing, such as PET/CT, SPECT, and Echo/Bubble Study reports
  • Patient education/counseling, and alerting physicians/APPs as necessary for triage messages and calls
  • Medication counseling

Training to Include:

  • Emergency protocols and procedures in the case of a medical emergency
  • Evacuation procedures for patients and staff members in the case of an emergency
  • Pritikin Program source materials, and completion of necessary requirements as determined by Pritikin
  • NSC Nuclear Nurse:
  • EMR system education/training
  • IV placement and patient monitoring

Recommendations for Application

  • Strong background in cardiovascular pathophysiology and associated comorbidities

 

Salary: $80,000-$90,000
