JOB SUMMARY: Nurse Practitioner-Immediate Care/EBC, a non-exempt position, is responsible for direct patient care and for other administrative duties as assigned by the Medical Director and his/her designee in accordance with the Indiana Nurse Practice Act.

QUALIFICATIONS:

JOB SPECIFIC CORE COMPETENCIES:

  • Assesses patients appropriately by obtaining health history and evaluating presenting illness.
  • Order/performs diagnostic testing appropriately.
  • Documents treatment plan appropriately in the EMR.

PREREQUISITE SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of advanced practice of nursing including anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology and therapeutics, basic nutrition, behavioral factors, psychosocial/family systems, diagnostic testing, interpretation of results and clinical decision making, alternative treatment modalities.
  • Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices and regulations related to evaluating and providing patient care, and professional ethics related to the delivery of nursing care.
  • Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments used to administer patient care.
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish/maintain a safe work environment.
  • Knowledge of health promotion, health risk identification, and patient education principles and techniques.
  • Knowledge of community, professional, and educational resources.
  • Skill in oral and written communication including interviewing to gather medical histories; providing presentations, consultations, facilitation, and documentation, e.g., writing medical orders, patient education materials, and medical record updates. May require skill in using computerized health information management systems.
  • Skill in case management, time management, problem solving, crisis intervention, multitasking, and other organizational matters.
  • Skill in modifying methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide appropriate nursing care and in initiating appropriate emergency response and investigatory procedures.
  • Ability to analyze complex data and draw conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, clinical staff, and the public.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Practice medicine using sound medical judgment and adhere to all ethical considerations of the practice of medicine, understanding limitations consistent with Indiana Nurse Practice Act and seek consult when advisable.

  • Meet all clinical obligations of the medical practice, CLIA compliance, drug prescription compliance, HIPAA, State and Federal regulations and Safety regulations.
  • Follow internal policies and procedures; be accountable for all operational tasks including clinical documentation completion.
  • Advise administration of any issues that impact the practice.
  • See patients in a timely and efficient manner, stay reasonably on time for scheduled appointments throughout the day. Patient relations, patient experience and STUDER goals necessitate this important consideration.
  • Accountability for appropriate coding to ensure accurate billing
  • Charting on patient medical records is routinely expected to occur on the same day as the patient visit.
  • Demonstrate on-going support and respect for administration in all communications, either privately with staff or in a group setting;
  • Routinely see patients in the time allotted, adjusting to daily patient flow issues to remain on schedule;
  • Adhere to administrative priorities, without setting conflicting personal ones
  • Assist in creating a constructive professional atmosphere for the staff by being a positive influence; actions/comments should enhance morale and staff relations;
  • Serve as a resource for administration in various capacities related to a wide range of needs; meet periodically with administration at their request, either routinely or on an as needed basis.
  • Serve as a role model for staff by setting a good example, which includes but is not limited to punctuality.

Position Requirements

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:

  • Current state license as Registered Nurse.
  • Current state license as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner with Prescriptive Authority.
  • Current CPR certification.

ADDITIONAL LICENSURE/CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • BSN required, MSN preferred.
  • Successful completion of advanced practitioner training and certification as a practitioner (general or specialized) from an approved nurse practitioner program.

ADDITIONAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of three years of professional nursing experience in a clinic setting. Prefer at least one year of nurse practitioner experience.
  • Mandatory Continuing Education: Customer Service, Fire and Safety, Corporate Compliance (including Confidentiality), Infection Control, and education required by regulatory, accreditation bodies, scope of practice, and/or Hancock Physician Network.
