Since 1971, the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board has provided a comprehensive continuum of high-quality, essential, and community-based services to citizens of the Peninsula who are affected by mental illness, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorders.

The Regional Crisis Stabilization Unit is an 11-bed residential crisis stabilization / ambulatory detox program offering an alternative to or diversion from an acute inpatient psychiatric hospitalization. The multidisciplinary approach offers rapid access to brief intervention through psychiatry, nursing, therapy, psychoeducation, peer recovery supports, a structured milieu, and comprehensive care coordination.  Serves adults 18 - 64 years of age.

This program operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Therapist will manage a caseload of clients with mental illness and/or substance-related disorders for a Regional Crisis Stabilization Unit in coordination with the agency’s Crisis Continuum, the agency’s Clinical Services, and other Region-V CSBs.  Participates in a multidisciplinary approach that provides rapid assessment, evaluation, crisis intervention, psychiatric, and medical monitoring.  Uses a brief stay approach for treating diminishing acute symptoms and psychiatry conditions preventing the need for hospitalization.  The therapist provides psychoeducation, individual and group services supporting care, working collectively to provide stabilization and engage with discharge/transition planning.
