Overview

The Navigation Coordinator is an important part of the Black AIDS Institute (BAI) team, supporting the organization's HIV testing and referral linkage services by engaging Los Angelinos identified as belonging to priority populations and those who could benefit from behavioral health intervention.

The ideal candidate must have a demonstrated commitment to social justice and equity, a strong work ethic, demonstrated success in program planning and implementation; and thrive in an unapologetically Black work environment. Certification as an HIV tester for Los Angeles County is preferred.

Job Location: Los Angeles, California

Reporting Relationship: Prevention and Care Manager

Supervisory Relationship: None

Salary Range: $46,258-$55,000 annually, depending upon experience and qualifications. This is a non-exempt, hourly position.

Agency-wide Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the mission, vision, and values of the Black AIDS Institute
  • Comply with all organizational policies and procedures
  • Maintaining confidentiality
  • Compliance with regulatory bodies
  • Participate in appropriate professional development programs to attain and maintain competency

Position Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with community partners, conduct outreach activities, and recruit and retain clients for prevention training services
  • Conduct HIV testing, provide behavioral assessment, referral linkage to care, and follow-up to promote retention in care
  • Attend, organize, and present at schools, non-profits, public and private spaces, open houses, faith-based institutions, and neighborhood community meetings, regarding BAI services
  • Complete all forms, required data entry and filing on a weekly basis
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of a monthly outreach and testing calendar
  • Plan monthly events to reach and support Black and Latino MSMs, Black trans women, priority for clients with behavioral health issues and other marginalized communities of Black people

 
Position Requirements

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree preferred; 2 years of HIV/AIDS-related work or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • High-level HIV prevention and care knowledge preferred
  • Proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel)
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication, public speaking, and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of the structural and cultural issues related to HIV/AIDS prevention among Black people
  • Demonstrated commitment, in one’s personal and/or professional life, to social and racial justice
  • Ability to exercise discretion and tact in all interpersonal contacts and always maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work independently and accurately in a high-paced, deadline-oriented environment
  • Ability to work under pressure while exercising discretionary judgment; make decisions, when necessary, with minimal direct supervision
  • Flexibility to perform other duties and responsibilities as needed

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 20-pound boxes or equipment in office or at events
  • Up to 75% of time will be in community settings outside of the office
  • Some weekend, evening, and holiday hours required
  • Adequate internet access to facilitate working from home as necessary
  • Ability to read, write and converse in English
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, stakeholders, and vendors
  • Ability to remain calm and composed under stress
  • Bending, lifting, grasping, fine hand/eye coordination, pushing/pulling, and/or prolonged sitting/standing
  • Ability to respond to telephones and other auditory stimulation
  • Ability to organize
  • Quantitative/mathematical ability (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, standard measurements)
