Position: Director, marketing and communications

Reports to: president and chief executive officer, Classification: exempt

Location: Phoenix, AZ 

Position Summary

The Director, Marketing and Communications develops, fosters and expands the Arizona Technology Council’s presence in Arizona’s technology and business community. The Director, Marketing and Communications develops and executes communication plans for the Council and is responsible for all aspects of marketing and communication with a strong emphasis on content creation, messaging and event promotion.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Develops and executes multi-channel marketing strategies and campaigns to promote the Council, its vision and mission, public policy initiatives, events and member organizations.

  • Oversees all marketing, media and advertising efforts for the Council including, but not limited to, planning and promoting the AZ TechCast monthly podcast, serving as creative director and designer for TechConnect Magazine, developing marketing and e-marketing campaigns, managing social media channels, designing graphics, managing vendors and maintaining the Council’s website (landing pages, tech blog, news and press, member logos, banners, graphics, forms, content, etc.).
  • Collaborates with public relations agency of record to facilitate news releases and media interviews.
  • Serves as the Council’s brand ambassador, ensuring consistency across all communications, representations of the Council’s values, mission and objectives and the elevation of the Council’s brand in the market.
  • Promotes 150+ annual events via email marketing, website, paid and in-kind advertising, social media and SMS platform.
  • Leads the content creation and curates content from partners and Council members for multiple assets including website, e-newsletter, blog posts, social media, membership collateral and other communications as needed.
  • Plans, designs and distributes monthly enews via email marketing, social media and website.
  • Maintains the annual marketing budget.
  • Identifies and promotes newsworthy stories and topics of interest on technology and innovation.
  • Develops guidelines and templates as needed for the organization.
  • Creates presentations and writes talking points and speeches as needed for the CEO.
  • Designs and implements advertising collateral including, but not limited to, digital advertisements, printed collateral, event signage and banners, event graphics, business cards and logos.
  • Provides project management on major initiatives such as the Annual Report, Public Policy Guide and Vote TechSmart.
  • Serves as staff liaison for the Council’s MarTech Forum and the annual MarTech Summit.
  • Oversees and approves all communications from the Tucson office.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

 
Position Requirements

REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations or related discipline and a minimum of five (5) years of business-to-business (B2B) marketing and communications experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in WordPress is highly preferred.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Demonstrated experience with digital marketing, social media marketing and content marketing.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (PhotoShop, Illustrator, InDesign), Microsoft Office, social media platforms and email marketing software.
  • Strong understanding of email marketing and event promotion.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Content-editing skills with a keen understanding of AP Style.
  • Demonstrated skill in project management and meeting deadlines.
  • Experience using customer relationship management (CRM) software.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position requires sitting for extended periods of time. Occasionally requires standing, squatting, reaching and bending. Requires ability to receive information through verbal communication both in-person and on telephone. Manual dexterity needed for using computer keyboard. Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds. Must have adequate vision to operate computer and complete paperwork.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This job operates in a professional office environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as assigned workstation, computer, phone and copier.
