Job Summary

The Optician is responsible for providing support to the optometry department. The Optician is responsible for both clerical and customer service aspects of the department. All duties and responsibilities will be performed in accordance with Yellowhawk Mission and Vision statements.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Assess and interpret patient’s optical needs/wants based upon prescription requirements, facial features, lifestyle, and occupation, and suggest most appropriate products (i.e. frames, lens type, coatings)
  2. Provide exceptional customer service
  3. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of products
  4. Take necessary measurements for patients hardware
  5. Prepare work order for lab ensuring all pertinent information is listed (i.e. patient information, prescription, lens size/type, measurements, lens options, etc.)
  6. Enter billing information into electronic health record system
  7. Prepare purchase request for hardware and supplies
  8. Inspect incoming orders for quality and accuracy
  9. Inspect final product for accuracy; adjust completed glasses to fit patient using pliers, hands and heat if necessary to bend frames accordingly
  10. Educate patient on how best to care for their glasses
  11. Adjust/repair damaged frames, replace nose pads and missing screws
  12. Price, stock and straighten merchandise
  13. Performs multiple tasks simultaneously with accuracy and thoroughness despite time pressures and customer volume
  14. Takes pride in the appearance of the store and shows initiative in keeping the lab and stock room clean, organized and safe
  15. Assist coworkers as needed
  16. Maintain strictest confidentiality at all times.
  17. Other duties as assigned.
 
Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
  2. Customer service experience.
  3. Must submit to and pass a reference and criminal background check.
  4. Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
  5. Submit proof of COVID-19 vaccinations.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience working in an Optometry office.

Salary $41,649.60 - $62,846.08 annual
