SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer ('CFO'), the Director of Finance will oversee the accounting operations, analyze financial reports and data, and maintain proper controls to ensure the timeliness and accuracy of financial data and reporting. The Director of Finance will also oversee various financial and operating metrics to ensure sustainable mission driven operations.

The Director of Finance must be a committed and experienced financial leader. This leader will have the ability to mentor others in delivering measurable and effective results. The position will require a strong technical background, excellent communication skills and will go above and beyond in meeting the organization's mission.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Leads the finance / accounting teams (Business Office) and works closely with the CFO on the execution of strategic and tactical financial and business matters for the organization.
  2. Oversees the management and coordination of all fiscal reporting activities including: organizational revenue / expense and balance sheet reports, reports to funding organizations and regulatory agencies.
  3. Provides leadership in the development and monitoring of fiscal budgets and evaluates results of the organization to ensure both short-term and long-term sustainability.
  4. Ensures a strong system of internal controls to safeguard financial assets as well as accurate financial reporting including accounting policies, asset protection, cash handling policies, regulatory & non-profit operations, etc.
  5. Provides oversight for the coordination and activities of independent auditors ensuring all audit issues are resolved, related compliance issues are met, and the preparation of the annual financial statements is in accordance with US GAAP, as well as federal, state and other regulatory requirements.
  6. Provides a strong day-to-day leadership presence and bridges the complex financial functions by creating a collaborative environment of support to the organization.
  7. Support all departments management in their use and understanding of financial systems and reporting.
  8. Creates an environment focused on continual improvement and elimination of waste to ensure the effectiveness and efficiencies in all aspects of company's financial operations.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director of Finance will directly manage the following positions: Finance Manager, Accounting Supervisor and Purchasing Agents.

 
Position Requirements

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Broad experience with a full range of business functions and systems to include planning, budgeting, reporting and business analytics.
  • Excellent judgment and creative problem solving skills including negotiation and conflict resolution skills. Ability to take charge of a situation and can overcome resistance.
  • Strong mentoring and coaching experience to a team with diverse levels of expertise
  • Capacity to drive accountability in team and organization. Ensure the accounting and finance team is a supportive and collaborative business partner throughout the organization.
  • Superior management skills; ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers.
  • Energetic, flexible, collaborative, and a proactive leader that will lead and build the capabilities of a diverse financial team.
  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to anticipate future impacts and trends and incorporating them into the financial operation.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Required: Undergraduate degree; MBA, CPA and/or advanced degree preferred.
  • Required: Demonstrated ability to create and assess financial statements and supplementary reports.
  • Preferred: Knowledge of not-for-profit accounting in accordance with US GAAP and appropriate Code of Federal Regulations.
  • Preferred: Experience working with individuals with disabilities.
