Description

Leveraging their diverse teams, the director is responsible for conceiving of, developing, and implementing high-quality programs and services that advance the hospital’s strategic mission: Transformative Care, Inclusive World: Holland Bloorview 2030. Reporting to the vice president, Experience, Transformation and Social Accountability, the director will mobilize their teams to deliver operational excellence across the hospital’s client and family-centered care and partnerships initiatives; transitions to adulthood, youth employment pathways and life skills programming; the LIFEspan clinic; and emerging services to advance health equity for clients, families and alumni.

The incumbent will apply a creative and intersectional lens that helps foster a climate of innovation and risk taking, resilience, wellness and belonging, and mutual support across their teams. To achieve this, the incumbent will work in close partnership with a broad range of partner programs and stakeholders, both within and outside Holland Bloorview.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Program and service delivery

  • Provides operational accountability and direction to 60+ team members through their managers, 15+ client and family-facing services, and special projects
  • Manages the portfolio in alignment with strategic and operating priorities, hospital policies and procedures, accreditation standards, service workflows, and legislative requirements
  • Develops implementation plans for initiatives related to client and family-centered care, transitions to adulthood, and community partnership with internal and external stakeholders
  • Offers ongoing coaching and performance management to team members
  • Day to day budget management, including: operating within assigned budgets, authorizing purchase orders, monitoring expenses and mitigating budget risks, initiating capital and other budget requests
  • Review opportunities for sharing resources, supporting best use of all staff and space
  • Demonstrate innovation and vision in preparing proposals to access funding to evolve and grow programming

Evaluation, reporting and evidence-based practice

  • Monitors and evaluates outcomes resulting from programs, services, and associated quality improvements
  • Promotes an environment that facilitates research and the integration of evidence into practice
  • Cultivates team-based research, knowledge translation (e.g., publication, conference participation), and other academic activities
  • Prepares monthly/quarterly performance reporting for relevant hospital committees and senior management team, to identify trends and improvement opportunities
  • Oversees Client and Family Relations; the service responsible for processing, facilitating response to, and evaluating client and family compliments and concerns related to hospital experience

Community Partnerships

  • Fosters positive relationships and information sharing with current and prospective community partners
  • Cultivates shared initiatives across organizations that support client and family transitions to adult systems e.g., housing, adult health system
  • Leads their team to build broad capacity for client and family-centered care and family partnership, both within the hospital and across the health system
  • Acts as a key organizational representative in local, provincial and national forums e.g., conferences

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Masters degree (preferred) in health leadership/administration, a clinical discipline, sociology, equity studies, or equivalent
  • Minimum five (5) years leadership experience, preferably within a healthcare delivery environment
  • Ability to collect, interpret, analyze and communicate complex data and trends on significant issues
  • Demonstrated experience with program development, program management and co-design approaches
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written/verbal)
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with health administration, strategic and operational planning, and change management
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of health equity and barriers to safe, quality care for structurally disadvantaged populations
  • Experience working with diverse stakeholder groups including external community partners, adult sector partners, children, youth and young adults with disabilities and their families
  • Experience in strengths-based, solution focused approaches
  • Demonstrated people management, coaching and mentorship skills
  • A visionary leader who takes initiative; ability to actively seek opportunities to advance the strategic goals of the portfolio and broader organization
