Job Summary
Under the supervision of a licensed dentist, the expanded function dental auxiliary (EFDA) dental assistant will perform chairside duties in all phases of oral surgery, restorative, endodontics, prosthodontics, and periodontal treatment. As a member of the dental team, they will have joint responsible for monitoring the department to ensure it is stocked with all necessary supplies, it is clean, and all equipment is properly sterilized and in good working condition. All duties and responsibilities will be performed in accordance with Yellowhawk’s mission and vision statement.
Essential Job Functions
1. Establish and maintain respectful and professional relationships with patients and serve their needs by assisting the dental team in providing excellent patient care and customer service.
2. Establish and maintain respectful and professional relationships with all members of the dental team and all Yellowhawk Tribal Health Center employees.
3. Specific duties include but are not limited to setting up equipment for patient treatment, assisting the dentist during treatment, fabricating temporary crowns, clean-up, capturing radiographs of good diagnostic quality, and sterilizing instruments.
4. Place pit and fissure sealants; place and remove dental dams, place and remove various types of matrix retainers for restorations.
5. Take alginate impressions, pour, trim models, and fabricate customer trays.
6. Apply temporary soft relines for full dentures.
7. Work with children and perform prophies within the EFDA scope of practice.
8. Provide instructions and education to patients on all aspects of preventative oral care, brushing, and flossing techniques.
9. Accurately record and code appointment information using dental software.
10. Strictly follow all sterilization protocols.
11. Must obtain and maintain continued education requirements for Dental Assistant license.
12. Works directly with Dental Administrative Operations Manager on job performance improvements, work assignments, and scheduling days off.
13. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
1.Graduate from a Certified Dental Assisting School.
2.Expanded Functions Dental Assistant certification and Radiology Proficiency.
3. Current CPR certification.
4. Word processing and computer experience.
5. Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain insurance requirements to operate
General Services Administration vehicles.
6. Must submit to and pass a reference and criminal background check.
7. Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
8. Must submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Certification as a Certified Dental Assistant.
2. 2 years' successful experience as a Certified Expanded Functions Dental Assistant.
