Purchasing Agent; Inventory Control, maintaining incoming freight costs.





  • Purchasing from assigned vendors. Determine order amounts to keep inventory at assigned # of days on hand, in transit, or both. Building and maintaining relationships with suppliers. Working with suppliers to get shipments and inventory as needed and required. Ordering allocated and specialty items.


  • Inventory control: review sales history to assess inventory and needs in a timely fashion, factoring lead time and transit time to have expected level of inventory on hand when needed. Measuring on hand vs forecasts to place and track orders.


  • Forecasting inventory needs: factoring what is needed, based on but not limited to; sales, time of the year, social events, specials, deals, price increases or any other event that may impact sales or inventory, and producing and placing such orders.


  • Negotiate freight rates with carriers, update admin and managers on rate changes. Approve freight bills. Seek out and engage new carriers to decrease costs.


  • Track and expedite orders, follow up on shipments for timely and accurate deliveries. Assist with scheduling delivery appointments into NEB RI & CT as needed.


  • Assist receiver with related tasks such as inventory adjustments and researching any problems such as overages or shortages. Reconcile issues, maintain proper vintages, and assist with receiving product in warehouse from truckers as needed.


  • Communicate with sales managers for programs, close-outs, and seasonal fluctuations that might cause any inventory needs.


  • Coordinate with other distributors on inventory issues and assess potential to move inventory or pool loads to reduce costs or improve our inventory levels.

  • Deadlines for the Buyer include: Order cut off for specific products for example: Holiday order, seasonal product, supplier request, and price increases.


  • The Buyer is sometimes responsible for performing duties beyond the normal workday.




Position Requirements


High school diploma necessary for hire, no specific degree required.


Prior Purchasing experience (2-3 years) preferred.



Close attention to detail is necessary for controlling machines or processes at a rapid pace, requiring close hand/eye coordination and fine motor skill adjustments. Plan or direct fairly complex work methods or operations that include size, shape, or physical qualities of product.





Ability to position self to reach various objects around the office, remain stationary for an extended period of time, ability to move about the office to access things such as file cabinets, ability to operate office machinery such as computers, ability to communicate effectively, and repeat motions. Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.






Ability to use Computer and Picker (lift machine).


Ability to use Microsoft Office, Smarterm, and the internet.
