Description

Are you ready to step into a customer-service leadership role at one of the top science centers in the country, Durham’s beloved non-profit, the Museum of Life and Science? We have the role for you as the Guest Relations Associate Manager! You can work amongst the 84 acres of indoor and outdoor exhibit space that includes homes for butterflies, bears, wolves, and lemurs. As a member of the Management Team, this position helps provide a welcoming environment to all of the Museum’s guests; has weekly shifts as Manager on Duty, including day-of supervision of all front-line staff; and will be cross-trained in admissions, ranging, train driving, and group check-ins.

Position Objective:  Supports the Museum’s mission by maintaining a positive and proactive work environment, delivering an exemplary level of service during a guest’s visit from check-in to departure, and being knowledgeable about Museum programs, events, exhibits, procedures, and products. Support Museum’s member-focus through promoting benefits and value of membership to guests. Be a member of the Guest Relations Management Team through conducting daily operations through MOD shift and helping execute Guest Relations projects.

Responsibilities

  • Support Guest Relations Management Team in all guest operations to provide a quality visitor experience, excellent service and ensuring a safe, clean, welcoming environment.
  • Maintain and ensure compliance with procedures to provide visitors with accurate information concerning prices, programs, and other Museum events and opportunities.
  • This position will work up to 2 guest facing shifts in admissions, train, ranging, or reservations per week and get office time to help with administrative tasks like coordinating volunteers.
  • Act as Manager on Duty up to 2 times per week including day-of supervision of all front-line staff; resolving visitor problems or complaints; opening and closing procedures with accurate cash drawer set ups, reconciliations, deposit preparation.
  • Work with Guest Relations Leads to train new staff and reinforce policies with existing staff.
  • Manage time between administrative tasks and on-stage tasks to allow for a proper balance of workload while meeting established deadlines.
  • Foster a positive staff culture and work environment.
  • Be cross-trained in all Guest Relations roles including admissions, ranger, train, parking, and group check-in. This means you may work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Oversight for maintaining adequate supplies and materials for Guest Relations operations.
  • Attend and participate in Emergency Coordinator training and act as Emergency Coordinator when the need arises.
  • Transport guests and staff in golf cart and Museum road vehicles as needed.
  • Engage with adults and children in a friendly, outgoing, and professional manner
  • Model responsible behaviors to team.
  • Identify and evaluate issues that arise and use critical thinking to troubleshoot.
  • Prioritize and handle multiple tasks, delegating when appropriate.
  • Effectively communicate operational successes, opportunities, and concerns to management.
  • Know and model adherence to Museum policies and procedures.
  • Work independently with limited coaching and oversight.
  • Always demonstrate adherence to Museum safety procedures.
  • Engage with Museum visitors in a positive and helpful way to support an enjoyable and safe guest experience.
  • Prioritize the Museum’s values of inclusion and kindness in all interactions with staff, volunteers, and guests.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

 

Actual Pay Rate: $18.00/hour

 
Position Requirements

Requirements:

  • College degree or 4+ years’ experience in relevant field
  • Strong customer service background
  • Experience with point-of-sale systems; ability to accurately handle and reconcile cash and credit card transactions
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to work collaboratively and with diverse populations
  • Exceptional attention to detail with a high level of organization
  • Ability to work under pressure with a positive attitude and creative problem-solving skills
  • Good at multi-tasking and planning/logistics
  • Ability to respond appropriately to emergencies with provided training.
  • Able to embrace the Museum mission
  • Strong computer and Microsoft Office skills
  • Able to work a flexible schedule including one weekend day weekly, at least one full weekend a month, and occasional evenings
  • Physically able to be on one’s feet for 8+ hours and travel distances of up to one mile on variable terrain
  • Able to lift up to 30 lbs.

 

Desired:

  • 2+ years in museum or visitor park experience
  • Conversational Spanish

Pay Range $18.00 per hour
