The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures furthers the understanding, celebration, and preservation of cinema through inclusive and accessible exhibitions, digital experiences, screenings, programs, initiatives, and collections. Welcoming visitors from Los Angeles and around the world, and serving a global audience online, the museum works in active partnership with motion picture artists and specialists, scholars, staff, and diverse communities to contextualize and challenge dominant narratives around cinema, inspiring discourse, connection, joy, and discovery.

Reporting to the VP, Digital Content and Strategy, the Digital Content Producer/Editor will develop digital content to enrich the Museum’s visitor experience and contribute to a world-class presence via online platforms and channels. We are seeking a creative thinker with a proven understanding of engaging storytelling on various digital and social platforms and experience with including a diversity of voices and perspectives. In collaboration with the Digital Content team and stakeholders across the organization, including Programming, Curatorial, Archivists, Education, Marketing, and Communications, this individual will develop digital content that is compelling and leads to deeper engagement and societal impact. The ideal candidate is a creative storyteller, a quick learner, and an experienced producer who can independently accomplish a variety of productions for a wide range of digital platforms in a high-paced environment.

You Will:

  • Contribute to thoughtful assessment of opportunities to create meaningful digital content that furthers engagement with and impact of the Museum’s programs and exhibitions and supports other major institutional priorities.
  • Generate concepts for videos based on institutional needs and project goals.
  • Create pitch decks and high-level production assessments to be used for approval by the Digital Content team, which will include goals, intended audiences, creative approaches, formats, and distribution pitch as well as the assessment of production cost and a clear vision for success metrics and platform-specific KPIs.
  • Create and manage video production, schedule, workflow, and deliverables while serving as project lead in cross-departmental teams.
  • Lead the logistics and scheduling of shoot days, hire vendors as needed, serve as the primary contact person at the shoots, follow the current workflow, and provide suggestions for improved processes.
  • Direct the shoot and conduct interviews.
  • Manage and execute editing and post-production, hire vendors for specialized tasks in coordination with the Digital Content team. Create and track a detailed production schedule and ensure milestones are being met by the project team.
  • Research additional assets from archives and other third-party sources, prepare information following an asset template and work with the Museum’s Legal team on the licensing process.
  • Work closely with the Museum’s Creative team on video-related assets that follow the Museum’s brand identity.
  • Prepare briefing materials, lead meetings, and follow up with meaningful and contextualizing materials for each individual group you interact with.
  • Coordinate review cycles with stakeholders and oversee the harmonious completion of projects.
  • Work with the Digital Content team on publishing assets to the Museum’s website and other digital platforms.
  • Create derivative deliverables for Social Media platforms and collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team on the distribution of digital content.
  • Independently produce one-off projects in support of various departments across the organization, work with teams with various degrees of knowledge of the production process and guide them in accomplishing their projects successfully.
  • Build strong relationships with the teams of the Academy’s Margaret Herrick Library and Film Archive.
  • Assess current workflows and recommend improvements.
 
Position Requirements

You Have:

  • ­­A bachelor's degree in journalism, media production, communications, or related, is required.
  • A background in journalism, media and video production, digital communications, or related field. Experience working in museums is a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience in creating engaging stories for digital platforms.
  • Professional experience working in an organization with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong creative and editorial skills, including writing and editing.
  • Experience in archival research for documentaries.
  • Enthusiasm and a strong drive to follow through on stories.
  • Proven understanding of how to communicate with target audiences to inspire, educate, and create a bond with the Museum.
  • Strong professional communication skills.
  • Proven knowledge and mastery of all phases of media production, including pre-production, production, post-production, licensing, and mastering of deliverables.
  • Independent troubleshooting skills for creative and technical challenges.
  • Experience in directing productions and supervising production and post-production teams.
  • Highly efficient project management skills, including scheduling, budgeting, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to quickly react to challenges in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of new developments in digital storytelling in arts & culture, brands, and new forms of delivery.
  • Passionate about film and film history.
  • Proficiency with media editing software (Adobe Creative Suite) and project management systems (Airtable).

  • Flexibility to work on weekends and evenings as needed.

The expected base salary range for this role is $85,000 to $90,000. The actual base pay offered will be determined by factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and other factors permitted by law. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis.
