SUPERVISION:

Non-Supervisory.

GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:

Provides professional mental health services to families with young children (birth to 8 years old) in open child welfare cases and children with behaviors putting them at high risk of expulsion from childcare. Provide a variety of routine and complex professional social work duties, including areas such as child abuse and neglect; youth in conflict; adults unable to protect their own interests; family resources; and adoption.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Mental Health Casework:

  • Develops the skills necessary to provide services to client population.
  • For routine cases, investigates and performs needs assessment gathers information, identifies problems, and determines level of risk.
  • Determines appropriate collateral contacts and conducts interviews.
  • Monitors progress according to plan objectives.
  • Coordinates with law enforcement when necessary, according to county guidelines.
  • Sets up medical or psychological/psychiatric assessments as needed.
  • Determines the level of risk to the individual.
  • Determines what services and interventions will assure the individual’s safety in the home.
  • Attends and participates in court hearings as needed.
  • Establishes goals. Develops and implements a written plan for services with objectives, action steps to achieve the objectives, and measurable outcomes.
  • Participates in Family Engagement Meetings to present case progress and modify plans as needed.
  • Transports clients as necessary or required.
  • Records findings in appropriate database.
  • Responds to after-hours crisis calls as required, including the on-call scheduling rotation.
  • Coordinates with supervisors on critical decisions.

Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

(Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as determined by Garfield County may be substituted for the following requirements.)

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in human services, or a related field. Master’s degree in Human Services, OR currently being enrolled in a Master's program.
  • Experience: Four years of experience in human services or a similar field with a focus on mental health.
  • Language Requirement: Bilingual skills in English and Spanish are preferred.
  • Licenses & Certifications: Valid driver’s license. Colorado Child Welfare Case Worker Certification or the ability to acquire such a certification.

REQUIRED PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:

While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is frequently required to reach, grasp, finger, stand, sit, walk, talk, and hear. Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment. Extended periods of sitting are required.

WORK HOURS:

  • Hours are typically 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday.
  • There may be times when an employee may need to work outside the established work week, such as after hours or on the weekend.

REQUIRED TRAVEL:

The employee is regularly required to travel within the County.

TECHNOLOGY AND EQUIPMENT:

Computer and relevant software applications, spreadsheets, calendars, and word processing. Will also work with calculators, telephone systems, and mobile phones.
