Grounds Keeper
OVERVIEW: Maintains all Lower Elwha Klallam Tribal outside areas at all facilitity locations.
WORK LOCATION: Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe Facilities
SUPERVISED BY: Grounds Maintenance Supervisor
POSITION STATUS: Full-time
SALARY LEVEL: $18.50
WORK SCHEDULE: 40 hrs. per week; w/ 30 minutes lunch time
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB:
- Plants, transplants, trims, and water flowers, shrubs, and trees
- Loads and transports soil and fertilizers; spreads, cultivates, and weeds soil for lawns; levels and seeds new lawns
- Sprays outdoor flowers and shrubs for pest control;
- Trims and cuts grass with hand or power mowers; operates trucks and tractors; uses shears, shovels, hoes, rakes, and other garden tools; services and makes minor repairs to equipment;
- Rakes leaves for compost piles; shovels snow; sand walks;
- Formulates and presents recommendations for layout or improvements of grounds with respect to flower beds and displays, shrub placement, and lawn cover;
- Estimates needs and submits requests for appropriate quantities and types of seeds, bulbs, seedlings, fertilizers, insecticides, fungicides, equipment and help needed;
- Individual should be able to have cleaning efficiency and attention to detail.
- Individual should be able to complete assigned projects in a timely manner and work with little supervision
- Other duties as assigned relevant to job duties
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or GED; or work experience equivalent
- Current Washington State driver license and insurable under State of Washington
- Must have knowledge of proper use of protective wear when cleaning with chemicals.
- Must past Background Check
- Must have UA testing done prior to employment
- Must be self-motivated and flexible
- Must be dependable and prompt in work attendance daily
- Must be able to operate equipment and machinery in a safe and cautious manner.
- Must be able to work under pressure.

- Ability to work independently and in a team; and with little supervision.
- Ability to self-motivate and able to motivate others
- Ability to follow department and Tribal policies and procedures.
- Ability to follow instructions and adhere to prescribed routines and practices.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Knowledge of use of maintenance equipment
- Ability to perform heavy outside work in inclement weather;
- Knowledge of lawn, flower and yard care
- Ability to use hand and power tools with a reasonable degree of skill; work safely;
- Ability to plan and manage all outdoor activities of grounds program.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to lift heavy objects for prolonged periods of time
- Must be able to work in all kinds of weather
- Must be able bend, stoop, squat, stretch in performing job duties
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS:
- Must abide by the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe personnel policies and procedures and the Drug and Alcohol policy
