This position involves operating a wide range of equipment to support the daytime operations of our port facility. The ideal candidate will have experience operating equipment such as skidsteers, loaders, haul trucks, material handlers, and ship cranes. Additionally, they will assist in loading and unloading various materials from barges and cargo ships, while also performing general laborer tasks for special projects and maintenance needs. Safety and adherence to security standards are paramount in all duties performed. The Heavy Equipment Operator will also be responsible for routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and reporting any equipment defects or repairs to the supervisor. Key Responsibilities: Operate a diverse range of heavy equipment including skidsteers, loaders, haul trucks, material handlers, and ship cranes. Assist in the loading and unloading of materials such as stone, gravel, and salt from barges. Participate in the offloading process of cargo ships arriving at the port. Perform general laborer tasks to support special projects and day-to-day maintenance operations. Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment. Report any equipment defects or repairs to the supervisor promptly. Proficient in operating skidsteers, loaders, haul trucks, material handlers, and ship cranes. Familiarity with loading and unloading materials from barges and cargo ships. Ability to perform general laborer tasks for special projects and maintenance needs. Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and security. Effective communication skills to report equipment defects or repairs to the supervisor. Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
