Medical Director/ Psychiatrist

Today, the Children's Guild is among the most experienced child serving organizations in the Greater Baltimore/Washington region. Each year, the agency's continuum of care and its 300+ professional staff help thousands of youth and their families achieve resiliency, dignity, and self-sufficiency. We operate therapeutic group homes, a treatment foster care program, and family help center located in Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Anne Arundel County and Prince George County. We also service students in our nonpublic special education programs in Baltimore City and Prince George's County. The Children's Guild also operates public charter schools located in Anne Arundel and Baltimore City and will open our first DC charter school in September, 2015. Description

To provide psychiatric services to the Children’s Guild programs

Accountability:

The Psychiatrist reports to the senior psychiatrist on medical matters and to the Director of Behavioral  Health for administrative matters.

 Skills/Responsibilities:

Key Result Area #1: To be responsible for understanding the Children’s Guild philosophy, and approach to treatment and medical policy.

 This KRA is successfully completed when:

 a.         Psychiatric evaluations, consultations and in-services completed by the               Psychiatrist reflect a developmentally based, child and family centered understanding of human growth and development.

 b.         Medical policy has been reviewed and discussed with the Senior Psychiatrist.

Key Result Area #2:     Provide Clinical Consultation and oversight of designated psychiatric direct care services

 This KRA is successfully completed when:

 a.         The  Psychiatrist is present on site as designated (minimum of 20 hours per week)

 b.         The  Psychiatrist provides phone consultation to parents and staff at other times and arranges for phone coverage as needed during vacations and absences.

c.          The Psychiatrist is available for emergency consult 24 hours a day seven days a week. 

Key Result Area #3:     Ensure Psychiatric Evaluations are up to date.

 This KRA is successfully completed when

 a.         All children enrolled and receiving medication management in the OMHC Program have a completed psychiatric evaluation in their chart.

b.         Psychiatric evaluations are completed and placed in the chart within 10 days of the parent/child interview.

 Key Result Area 4:       Manage Medication

This KRA is successfully completed when

 a.         All designated children enrolled in the OMHC Program receive psychiatric services in a timely manner.

 b.         All children enrolled in The OMHC program who are receiving medication prescribed by the Psychiatrist have medication reviews done every three months.

 c.         Prescriptions for medication are delivered to families of designated children receiving medication services in a timely manner

 d.         Children, families and staff are educated as to the potential benefits, risks and side effects of medications prescribed by the  Psychiatrist.

 e.         Medication prescribing patterns and practices are at the current best practice standard of care.

 Key Result Area #5:     Complete Documentation

This KRA is successfully completed when

 a.         Children’s Guild charts accurately reflect the medical and psychiatric condition of Children’s Guild patients and the standard of care they receive as determined by an independent chart review.

 b.         Confidentiality guidelines are followed.

 c.         Billing documentation is completed the day of the visit.

Key Result Area #6:     Provide Consultation

This KRA is successfully completed when

 a.         Requests for psychiatric consultation by the Program Director are met in a timely fashion.

 b.         Supporting documentation is provided in a timely manner.

 c.         Requests for inservices and staff training are met in a timely manner.

 Other Duties:

The Psychiatrist is expected to

1.         Demonstrate an understanding of the philosophy of The Children’s Guild.

 2.         Provide direct psychiatric services on site as indicated

 3.         Be available by phone (or arrange coverage) when not on site to provide brief consultation to parents and staff in an emergency or for purposes of medication management.

 4.         Pursue reading on relevant topics

 5.         Have or develop computer literacy

 6.         Promote the The Children’s Guild within the psychiatric and medical Community

 7.        All other duties as assigned

 
Position Requirements

Qualifications:

Board eligible/certified in psychiatry (child and adolescent preferred).

 

A current license to practice medicine in the State of Maryland

 

A current federal DEA certificate to prescribe controlled substances

 

Current CPR certification (may be scheduled if not current)
