Carr. Burten, Bell, Carr Development, Inc. has been empowering residents and revitalizing blighted and underserved communities in Cleveland's Central and Kinsman neighborhoods since 1990. BBC has now extended its service area to include the Buckeye-Shaker Square and Buckeye-Woodhill neighborhoods.  
Description

Buckeye is one of nine neighborhoods nationwide chosen by 5/3 Bank to implement its Empowering Black Futures Program. The goal of this program is to ensure that these neighborhoods receive capital, expertise, and tools to create equitable growth and economic mobility through its Empowering Black Futures program. This includes a $2 million grant for vacant home rehabilitation to sale to low-income families and home repairs for low-income households. In Cleveland, these efforts are led by Cleveland Neighborhood Progress as the grantee, BBC as the engagement partner and grassroots connector, and CHN Housing Partners as the facilitator of home repairs. The Resident Summer Associate will support BBC’s Neighborhood Planning and Engagement team in the following efforts: Capturing resident stories, creating block club infrastructure, supporting resident led summer engagement and event planning, planning community events. To capture resident stories, the Summer Associate will interview existing block club leaders, host focus groups with neighbors on block club engagement, and support engagement events lead by NP&E team members to deep engagement efforts across Greater Buckeye, Central, and Kinsman. To create block club infrastructure, the Summer Associate will support the meeting attendance and event coordination lead by current Community Engagement Coordinators, research block club best practices. To support resident-led summer engagement and event planning, the Summer Associate will meet with resident leaders to help them prepare event grant applications (when applicable), event budgets, and event timelines. If an event is funded through BBC, Summer Associate will help resident complete necessary payment request forms to access grant funds. The Summer Associate will plan or support the planning of 3 community events in areas where extensive housing development is occurring, and neighborhood unity is the desired impact.

This position will build BBC’s capacity to provide affordable housing to low-income individuals through its Empowering Black Futures (EBF) initiative in the Buckeye neighborhood of Cleveland, OH. Buckeye is one of nine neighborhoods nationwide chosen by 5/3 Bank to receive capital, expertise, and tools to create equitable growth and economic mobility. The Summer Associate will support BBC by: Creating a database of housing and related infrastructure in the EBF Target area, identifying priority areas for housing acquisition and repair, identifying other resources to leverage EBF investment, creating a system for coordination of home repair services.

 
Position Requirements
  • High school diplona or equivalent required.
  • Experience in community outreach and engagement, event planning and meeting facilitation.
  • Quick learner who excells at prioritizing responsibilities and coordinating resources.
  • Strong knowledge of computer systems and applications including Microsoft office products.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills that are both friendly and professional internally and externally with residents and stakeholders.
  • Exemplary organizational skills, excellent data entry and typing skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Proactive problem solver with exceptional analytical skills, negotiation skills, creativity, and willingness to take initiative and risks.

Compensation AmeriCorps VISTA Program Benefits : Choice of Education Award or End of Service Stipend, Living Allowance, Training, Education award upon successful completion of service .
