About the Organization Easterseals Louisiana (ESL) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to change the way the world defines and views disabilities by making profound, positive differences in people's lives everyday. Established in 1951, our organization supports over 8,600 individuals (whom we refer to as Participants) with a variety of disabilities. A leading provider of disability services, ESL has physical locations in 8 regions of Louisiana and our array of programs include; support coordination (case management) for children, adults and elderly participants, a wide range of behavioral health and housing services, early intervention services for infants and toddlers, and a school setting called The Chartwell Center in New Orleans.

Mission & Vision:

The purpose of Chartwell Center is to aid individuals with autism spectrum and related disorders by providing educational services and therapy, and by offering training and support to parents, teacher, and other professionals. Founded in 1999 by concerned and dedicated parents, the school's goal is to help its students not only survive but thrive in the outside world. The Chartwell Center became a part of Easterseals Louisiana in 2022. Easterseals Louisiana's mission is to change the way the world defines and views disabilities by making profound, positive differences in people's lives every day.

The Chartwell Center is a center is set up for elementary and high school age students with Autism. Our early intervention program implements Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) for children on the Autism Spectrum. Our center is looking for new team members who has any experience or interest- in teaching, psychology, working with children, or special needs services. The schedule is Monday-Friday 8-3:30 with 35 school holidays and 3 PTO days. The starting salary for this position is $30,000 annually. We offer a range of benefits from medical to 401K. There is no travel necessary for this position and no lesson planning. One staff member works with one child to increase functional communication, adaptive behaviors, and social skills.We are looking for people who are creative, empathetic, able to follow plans for our students, and willing to commit to the 2023-24 school year!

Job Description (include, but are not limited to):

ABA therapist work as a team to improve the lives of children and adults with autism. This position is also known as a line technician or ABA Tech. This position is a one-on-one ratio between student and teacher with the support of an ABA Specialist (BCBA).

ABA Therapist Responsibilities:

  • Actively participate in professional development and extracurricular activities
  • Proactively manage student behavior according to shared expectations and ABA guidelines
  • Engage families and community members in the learning process
  • Constant attention to and interaction with assigned student (Note: when student is on break therapist should be interacting with student teaching play skills or prepping next trials)
  • Constant delivery of approvals to student
  • Accurately taking data and notes on targeted behaviors and any new observed behaviors
  • Working toward and completing training objectives
  • Assisting in toileting and self-care needs of student
  • Picking up and cleaning as you go to assure classroom environment is safe and conducive to learning
  • Demonstrating flexibility in scheduling and student assignment
  • Staying current on programming/curriculum and adapting program changes as they occur
  • Consistently following classroom schedule

ABA Therapist Responsibilities:

  • Set and work toward ambitious behavioral and academic goals
  • Deliver community-based instruction
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to implement and reinforce all components of a consistently positive, creative and solutions-oriented school culture
  • Running NET, DTT, and academic programs accurately according to curriculum
  • Accurately summarizing and graphing data
  • Accepting and executing feedback from Executive Director, PATH Director, and BCBAs
  • Working as teammate in the classroom and throughout Chartwell
  • Communicating concerns in a friendly and professional manner
  • Completing assigned chores before leaving to ensure center cleanliness
  • Staying current on programming/curriculum and adapting program changes as they occur
  • Timeliness and punctuality for arrival (8:00 AM), lunch (30 minutes), and departure (3:45 PM at the earliest)

Position Details:

  • Can lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Communication with student, staff and family is essential.
  • Duties will include assisting with daily living skills such as dressing, hygiene, and toileting.

Qualifications:

  • A commitment to fulfill the school’s mission and vision
  • A passion for helping children and adults with learning differences
  • Experience working with children and/or adults with autism
  • Familiarity with Applied Behavior Analysis
  • Flexibility, patience, perception and empathy
  • Show respect and courtesy to students, parents, and colleagues
  • Accept feedback from supervisors in a polite and constructive manner
  • Maintain confidential information about students and their families
  • Act as a positive role model and representative of Chartwell both at Chartwell and in the community
  • An unwavering commitment to help each of our young learners excel behaviorally, academically, emotionally and socially

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree; preferred but not mandatory in Human or Social Services
  • Valid driver’s license if driving to an off campus school during your day is required
  • Easterseals Louisiana is a Drug-Free Workplace, pre-employment and random drug tests will be administered.
  • Will be required to pass Easterseals Louisiana’s background check
  • Some experience working with children for 1 year in a 1:1 setting
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to become a registered line technician with the state of Louisiana with in 14 days of registering
  • Starting Salary: $30,000
