Description

The Senior Major Gifts Officer is a key member of a 20-member development/marketing team and will be integral in the major donor fundraising program for the food bank. The development team is tasked with raising over $25-$30M each year. The ideal candidate will have experience executing development strategies for non-profit organizations and a commitment to the mission and values of Capital Area Food Bank. This role will report to the Director of Leadership Gifts.

 

Donor Engagement and Relationship Management – approx. 85%

  • Directly manages a portfolio of major and mid-level donors through frequent in person, email and phone engagement, solicitation, and stewardship;
  • Working with the Director, Major gifts, helps create and execute appropriate stewardship opportunities for the full spectrum of donors beyond their portfolio, throughout the year. This includes segmented communications, letters, campaigns, virtual events and small in-person events;
  • Independently identifies, cultivates, and solicits an active portfolio of individual donors and prospects and deepen their investment in CAFB’s mission;
  • Maximize individual giving, matching funds, bequest and legacy giving, and in-kind contributions.
  • Strengthen and develop pipeline of mid-level donors through a targeted qualification path;
  • Strategically moves donors through the pipeline in a systematic, scalable way;
  • Supports the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship efforts of the CEO and other key food bank staff so that they are properly prepared for each donor interaction that are not directly executed by this individual. This includes donor profiles, briefing materials, talking points and follow up.
  • Does select research on a segment of potential new donors and proposes and executes on strategies to engage them;
  • Responsible for meeting major gift revenue targets
  • Record and pull data using CRM system (currently Salesforce)

Collaboration – approx. 15%

  • Supports the efforts of the development department with regard to cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major and mid-level donors as well as special audiences such as new, consecutive year and sustainer donors;
  • Engages with the Communications team to integrate content into marketing and fundraising activities including advocacy, cultivation, and solicitation.
  • In collaboration with the Director, Major Gifts, and the Senior Director, Development, implements an overarching integrated individual giving strategy that includes major, mid-level gift and Capital Campaign fundraising.
 
Position Requirements
  • At least 7+ years of experience in fundraising or a closely related area, involving the solicitation of major gifts; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • BA from an accredited college or university preferred
  • Experience working with sensitive information and ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Extensive knowledge of fundraising best practices.
  • Experience soliciting 5 -6 figure donations, both face-to-face and virtually
  • Experience building and maintaining relationships, successfully renewing and upgrading support year-over-year
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to relate to donors, volunteers, colleagues, and Institute leadership
  • Self-motivated (a “self-starter”), innovative, and having the ability to work with considerable independence within the context of a team environment and a network of relationships.
  • Superior written and oral communication, negotiating, organizational, analytical, and fundraising skills, including the ability to interpret financial information and manage data.
  • Familiarity with financial planning, tax and charitable gift laws, and planned giving vehicles and methods.
  • Meaningful prior experience with donor database/CRM software is required (Sales Force preferred), as well as excellent proficiency with MS Office, especially Word and Excel.
  • The desire to be part of a fast-paced, high-energy, and collaborative team of high-performing and mission-driven development professionals.

  • Ability to travel to sites, as needed, throughout the metropolitan area.
