Description

JOB SUMMARY:
The Early Childhood Education Assistant Director is responsible for assisting with the delivery of quality Early Childhood Education service in YWCA Minneapolis’ multi-cultural childcare program at a specific site. The Assistant Director works closely with the Director to ensure maintenance of a safe, sanitary environment, DHS rule 3 licensing and NAEYC accreditation and is accountable to help promote and foster relationships with customers, employees, co-workers, partners and the community. This supervisory role is responsible for assisting with recruiting, developing and supervising a diverse childcare team at their site.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assist the Center Director in the day to day operations of the Early Childhood Education Facility:

  • Hire, orient, and provide on-going support of a diverse teaching staff.
  • Assist in supervising, developing, and providing leadership for all center staff.
  • Provide center tours and complete family intakes, as needed; maintain center’s waiting list.
  • Assisting in maintaining governing agencies compliance at all times (DHS Rule 3, NAEYC, Parent Aware, CACFP)
  • Assist in facilitating the accurate and timely completion of administrative tasks (i.e. paperwork, payroll, Concur, Childcare CRM, ProCare and operational and financial reports)
  • Practice conflict resolution that models respect for differences, is non-threatening, calm, and de-escalating in style
  •  Help plan, facilitate, and attend family/center events
  • Run the center in the Director’s absence
  •  Work with Director to ensure enrollment goals are met
  • May step in to run a classroom as a Teacher if needed
  • Contribute to an overall cohesive program of Early Childhood Education at YWCA Minneapolis
  •  Actively participate in ECE Assistant Director/Specialist meetings to share best practices
  • Assist Director in providing support (staff, mentoring) as needed to ensure overall Early Childhood Education goals are met
  • Seek to identify opportunities for integration and synergy in collaboration with peers within ECE and YWCA Minneapolis

 

RELATIONSHIPS:
This position reports to the Center Director who reports to the Director of Operations. The incumbent will interact with all Early Childhood Education staff, parents, and children. Critical relationships will include the Assistant Director/Specialist team, Accounting staff, and the Director of Operations.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
Education and Experience

  • A minimum of one year experience working in Early Childhood Education.
  • A minimum of one year supervisory experience.
  • Meet Minnesota DHS Rule 3 Teacher qualifications, including yearly in service requirements. Excellent human relations skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to write routine reports, newsletter articles and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees in the organization.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certifications
  • Preferred:
  • Ability to speak a second language helpful, but not required.
  • AA Degree or BA degree Early Childhood Development, Child Development or closely related field.
  • Director’s credential

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Must be able to work on computer for extended period of times.
  • Employee is regularly required to talk or hear, stand, walk, sit, use hands to fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Frequently is required to climb or balance and taste or smell.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
  • Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions and exposure to illness.
  • Noise level in the work environment is frequently loud.
  • Individual must have the ability to get to and from various sites/events/meetings in the metro area on an occasional basis.
