Description

Acutis is looking for a highly motivated immunohistochemistry (IHC) and in-situ hybridization (ISH) technologist to join our fast-growing team. Under the general direction and supervision of the Technical Director of Molecular Pathology, the Technologist will effectively apply knowledge and skills in developing, optimizing and validating IHC and ISH assays and run them for clinical sample analysis.

Responsibilities for the Molecular Pathology Technologist include but are not limited to:

  • Under the guidance of the function director, develop, optimize, and validate novel immunohistochemistry (IHC) and in-situ hybridization (ISH/FISH/CISH) assays, but also validate, or verify off-shelf kits, for offering to pharmaceutical clinical trials and standard patient care.
  • Fix fresh human biopsy, embed it in paraffin, cut slides, performs H&E, other standard histopathology, IHC and ISH staining.
  • As directed by the function head, search the market to find potential antibodies and other reagents that can be good candidates for a single antibody or multiplex IHC or single probe or dual probe ISH assay.
  • Search the market and/or literature to find materials that can be used for an assay validation and/or as positive and negative quality control for each assay.
  • Perform staining on Ventana instrument but also Dako and/or Leica.
  • Review slides for overall quality of preparation such as staining intensity, proper cover slipping and stain artifacts before sending slides for pathologist review.
  • Participate in sponsor, CRO, and investigator meetings as requested by business development team or project management to address client analytical questions in real time.
  • Draft SOPs, assay validation reports, clinical study reports and other operational documents.
  • Provide the instructions for sample acquisition, processing, storage, shipping, and handling needed for a lab manual.
  • Work with internal and external operation groups to coordinate activities such as sample management, analysis and result reporting.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance procedures.
  • Maintain accurate work records (i.e., Maintenance Logs, Temperature Logs, etc.).
 
Position Requirements

Education

  • Bachelors degree in one of the biological sciences.
  • American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Histotechnologist certification and/or NY State license is preferred.

Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in histopathology sample processing and regular staining including H&E.
  • 3+ years of experience in IHC and ISH staining.
  • Experience with Ventana Benchmark stainer is required. Experience with Dako and/or Leica is preferred.
  • Track-records for establishing, developing, optimizing and validating IHC and ISH assays – Experience developing novel assays is preferred.
  • Ability to draft a plan, SOP, and assay validation report.
  • Collaborative and teamwork skills.
