About the Organization Established June 15, 1971, Valley Community Services Board is a publicly funded organization where citizens of Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta and Highland Counties can receive Behavioral Health, Substance Use and Developmental Services services. Valley Community Services Board serves as the single point of entry into publicly funded mental health, developmental, and substance use disorder services for these localities.

Description

VCSB is looking for a Prevention Specialist! The Prevention Specialist will plan and implement substance misuse prevention, suicide prevention, and mental health promotion strategies, guided by the Prevention Services Department’s approved action plan and facilitate positive community and peer relations.

Summary of Essential Functions

  • Actively participates in select coalitions and community groups relevant to prevention services; works with subcommittees and relevant work groups as needed.
  • Develops and maintains effective communication and productive working relationships with community partners that advance the goal of preventing substance misuse and suicide or promote mental health awareness.
  • Serves as the representative of VCSB’s Prevention Services Department at community events.
  • Schedules a minimum of one post per week on VCSB’s social media accounts to provide information on relevant prevention information, awareness months, and local community events.

Minimum Qualifications

  • All applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications in order to be considered qualified for the position:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent combination of experience and education,
  • Successful completion of a thorough background check, and
  • Valid Virginia driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
