Description

JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for managing the revenue cycle processes and initiatives including but not limited to functions of patient access and patient financial services. Coordinates operations with other hospital departments and the medical staff. Interprets policies and recommends policy changes. Interviews and hires new associates and assigns them to various work areas.

QUALIFICATIONS:

JOB SPECIFIC CORE COMPETENCIES:

  • Develop and implement strategies to improve revenue cycle performance, including billing and collections, denial management, coding and charge capture, and revenue cycle analytics.
  • Oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of the Hospital Revenue Cycle, Physician Office Revenue Cycle, and Coding and Charge Capture departments.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations related to billing and reimbursement, including HIPAA and Medicare guidelines.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure proper communication and coordination between revenue cycle and clinical operations.
  • Manage relationships with third-party payers, including negotiating contracts and resolving payment disputes.
  • Monitor and analyze revenue cycle metrics to identify trends and areas for improvement and develop and implement action plans accordingly.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to revenue cycle staff, including hiring, training, and performance management.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices in revenue cycle management and make recommendations for process improvements and technology adoption.
  • Ability to oversee department budgets developed by the Revenue Cycle Directors reporting to the AVP of Revenue Cycle.

Department-Specific Clinical or Technical

  • Coordinates all activities of the Revenue Cycle and structures work processes to meet Revenue Cycle goals while complying with all state, federal and regulatory agency requirements.
  • Supports points of registration to provide quick and convenient access to hospital services while maintaining a high level of accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Assists with internal and external audit processes to ensure integrity of accounts.
  • Receivable (AR) numbers and processes.
  • Coordinates collection of AR with staff and agencies to ensure appropriate and timely collection of past due AR. Bad Debt as a percentage of gross revenue is not to exceed LEM Benchmarks.
  • Supervise Charity Care policy to ensure the identification and adjustment of appropriate charity care services for both Hospital and Physicians.
  • Develops appropriate annual departmental goals to support the overall strategic plan of the hospital. Goals reflect a high degree of importance to department productivity and growth.
  • Achieves significant progress or completion of departmental goals.
  • Supervises and Leads - Directors of Patient Financial Services for Hospital and Physician Network and Director of Health Information Services.
 
Position Requirements

EXPECTED BEHAVIORS:

• Excellent professional writing and correspondence skills.

• Comprehension of financial statements.

• Comprehension of department-specific associate duties and processes.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, business administration, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in healthcare revenue cycle management, with a strong background in both hospital and physician office billing and reimbursement practices.
  • Experience managing a team of revenue cycle professionals, with a proven track record of driving performance improvements.
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to healthcare billing and reimbursement, including HIPAA and Medicare guidelines.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret data to make informed decisions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience with revenue cycle management technology, including electronic health records (EHR) and billing systems.
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR) certification preferred.
  • Previous experience in Medicare reimbursement electronic billing, collections and insurance.
  • Mandatory Continuing Education: Customer Service, Fire and Safety, Corporate Compliance (including Confidentiality), Infection Control, and education required by regulatory, accreditation bodies, scope of practice, and/or Hancock Regional Hospital.
