SUMMARY

Quality Engineering Technician plays a critical role in the function and effectiveness of the Quality Management System and supports all levels of the quality and engineering departments

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Follows all ISO 9001 and IATF16949 Procedures and Work Instructions in the performance of the following duties:

  • Develop CMM & Keyence IM programs to support new part product launches and improvements to existing part programs. Trouble-shoot and resolves issues related to programming and/or software and hardware. Develop and train additional personnel to program as need arises. Provide training for all personnel required to operate CMM and/or Keyence IM.
  • Perform calibration on all measurement equipment. Maintain documentation within PLEX for all items calibrated internally as well as items sent out to be calibrated at another facility. Complete out of tolerance impact form for any items found to be out of calibration.
  • Ensure calibration procedures are current and meet the requirements of IATF 16949
  • Obtain quotes and submit purchase orders for measuring equipment needs as well as monitoring ISO 17025 certifications to ensure they are current and up to date
  • Set up and analyze Gage R&R and assist with data collection when necessary for measurement system analysis (MSA). Lead investigation of measurement strategy concerns coming out of MSA studies and/or other concerns that may arise.
  • Create, manage, update and implement the use of quality procedures/documents as required by APG and ISO/IATF standards
  • Collect data for capability studies as assigned in support of product launches (PPAP), internal testing and development, continuous improvement projects, and customer issues
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities as assigned
  • Assist with new quality equipment purchases, implementation, and training
  • Assist with completing documentation for first article inspections and PPAP requirements
  • Assist in developing and initiating standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation in support of product launches and continuous improvement to existing products
  • Train Quality Technicians on inspection procedures and help resolve issues as they arise
  • Perform internal and layered process audits according to schedule to verify effectiveness of the Quality Management System
  • Manage EASE Layered Process Audit software and provide monthly reports to the management team. Ensure timely completion of audits and escalate when necessary.
  • Monitor and disposition nonconforming material and provide reports to management, lead Material Review Board (MRB) meetings
  • Promote a continuous improvement culture by being actively present on the floor and communicating with operators as well as identifying areas and processes to be considered for continual improvement
  • Maintain safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships across the organization
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities
  • Develop and perform training as assigned
 
Position Requirements

SKILLS NECESSARY

  • Use of Calipers, Micrometers, and Various Other Hand Gages
  • Strong Experience with CMM and Vision Systems
  • Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Power Point
  • Blueprint Reading
  • Strong Understanding of GD&T
  • CMM Programming Experience (preferred)
  • Plex ERP System (preferred but not necessary)
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 and IATF 16949
  • Problem Solving and Root Cause Analysis Techniques (preferred)
  • Proactive Mentality

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

2 year technical degree related to quality/metrology or equivalent experience plus 2-4 years of experience in a manufacturing environment – preferably in automotive with 2 of those 4 years in quality. Must have a strong background in metrology and CMM experience. Competent in Microsoft Word and Excel. Strong background in geometric tolerancing, and SPC. Must have the ability to work in a team environment, as well as multi-task.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to write correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must hold a valid Pennsylvania Driver's License.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate in the office area and loud in the manufacturing area. Appropriate PPE must be worn where required.
