Are you an experienced Planner looking for an opportunity to serve multiple communities? Bolton & Menk, a regional consulting engineering firm, has an opportunity for a Planner II with a focus on land use to join our Planning & Urban Design Group in our Burnsville or Minneapolis office. This position is anticipated to include a significant role in assisting client communities on current planning tasks, including development review, zoning updates, and related services. In this role you will:

  • Develop and/or guides the development of planning studies, technical memorandums, and reports in support of new and updated plans, programs, regulations, and proposed projects.
  • Review, or guide the review of development applications on the behalf of clients.
  • Researchand creates reports and graphics summarizing a variety of planning topics based on document review, data collection and analysis, and other methods.
  • Facilitate or assistwith community engagement and outreach when developing or reviewing plans, including working with community groups, government agencies, developers, and elected officials.
  • Conduct or assistwith field evaluations and assessments (environmental focus).
  • Have primary or secondary knowledge and responsibility in the following specializations:
    • Land use
    • Environmental
    • Landscape architecture
    • Project communication
    • Transportation
    • Other similar specializations
  • Travel to facilities and other projected related locations as necessary.
  • Maintain confidentiality of company and client related information.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor's or Masters degree in urban planning, public policy or closely related field from an accredited college or university with 4 years of progressive planning experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • Certification by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) preferred, but not required.
  • Thorough knowledge and skills in GIS and its planning uses.
  • Thorough knowledge in related software (i.e. ArcGIS, MS Excel and Word).
  • General knowledge in Adobe Creative Suites.
  • General knowledge of MnDOT Road Design Manual and State Aid Requirements (transportation focus).
  • General knowledge of NEPA regulations (environmental focus).
  • Strong skills in client needs assessment, meeting quality standards for service, and evaluation of client satisfaction.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent composition, grammar and proofreading skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Possess a valid drivers license as travel to various facilities and job sites may be required.
